Time 10m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 cups coarsely chopped cooked turkey breast
1/2 cup diced celery
1/2 cup diced red apple
1/3 cup raisins
1/3 cup low-fat plain yogurt or 1/3 cup reduced-calorie mayonnaise
salt and pepper
pita bread or other bread

Steps:

  • Combine turkey, celery, apple, raisins, and yogurt in a medium bowl. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  • Serve in pita, with a cruncy lettuce leaf.

Tips:

  • When choosing pita bread, look for soft and fluffy loaves that are free from tears or holes. You can also warm the pita bread in the oven or microwave before assembling the sandwich for a softer texture.
  • For a more flavorful sandwich, use roasted turkey instead of deli turkey. You can also add other roasted vegetables, such as bell peppers, zucchini, or onions, to the sandwich.
  • If you don't have any hummus, you can substitute it with Greek yogurt, cream cheese, or mashed avocado.
  • To add a bit of spice to the sandwich, you can add a dollop of harissa or Sriracha sauce.
  • If you're packing the sandwich for lunch, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil to prevent it from getting soggy.

Conclusion:

The turkey pita sandwich is a delicious and versatile lunch option that can be customized to your liking. With its combination of protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fats, it's a satisfying and nutritious meal that will keep you going all afternoon. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy lunch, give the turkey pita sandwich a try.
