Provided by Katie Clark

Categories     Copycat

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 7

28 ounce bag frozen steak fries
Sea Salt
1-2 cups Colby Jack shredded cheese
1/2 cup bacon bits (maybe a little more!)
1 bunch of green onions, diced
1 jar pickled jalapeño
Ranch dressing

Steps:

  • Place fries on a baking dish and bake according to instructions on the bag
  • Once cooked, sprinkle with sea salt and toss to coat
  • Sprinkle bacon bits evenly across the fries
  • Place fries on a baking dish and bake according to instructions on the bag
  • Cover with cheese
  • Bake at 450 for 10 minutes
  • Broil for additional minute or so if needed
  • Top with diced onions and pickled jalapeños

Tips:

  • Choose the right potatoes: Russet potatoes are the best choice for cheese fries because they are starchy and have a fluffy interior. Yukon Gold potatoes can also be used, but they will result in a crispier fry.
  • Cut the potatoes evenly: This will ensure that they cook evenly. Aim for fries that are about 1/2-inch thick and 3-4 inches long.
  • Soak the potatoes in water: This will help to remove excess starch and prevent the fries from sticking together. Soak the potatoes in cold water for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
  • Dry the potatoes thoroughly: Before frying the potatoes, make sure they are completely dry. This will help them to crisp up and prevent them from steaming.
  • Use a high-heat oil: The best oil for frying cheese fries is one that has a high smoke point, such as vegetable oil or canola oil. Avoid using olive oil, as it has a low smoke point and will burn easily.
  • Fry the potatoes in batches: Do not overcrowd the pan when frying the potatoes. This will prevent them from cooking evenly. Fry the potatoes in batches in a single layer.
  • Season the fries immediately: As soon as the fries are done frying, season them with salt, pepper, and any other desired seasonings. This will help the seasonings to adhere to the fries.
  • Top the fries with cheese: Once the fries are seasoned, top them with your favorite cheese. Cheddar cheese is a classic choice, but you can also use mozzarella, Parmesan, or any other type of cheese that you like.
  • Broil the fries until the cheese is melted and bubbly: Place the fries under a broiler until the cheese is melted and bubbly. This will take about 2-3 minutes.

Conclusion:

Cheese fries are a delicious and easy-to-make snack or side dish. By following these tips, you can make the best cheese fries at home. Experiment with different types of cheese and toppings to find your favorite combination.
