Tips:
- Choose the right zucchini and squash. Look for young, tender zucchini and squash with smooth, unblemished skin. Avoid zucchini and squash that are too large or have thick skins, as they will be more difficult to cook evenly.
- Slice the zucchini and squash thinly. This will help them cook evenly and will also make them more tender.
- Don't overcrowd the pan. When cooking the zucchini and squash, make sure to spread them out in a single layer in the pan. This will help them cook evenly and prevent them from steaming.
- Season the zucchini and squash generously. Salt, pepper, and garlic powder are all good choices. You can also add other herbs and spices to taste.
- Cook the zucchini and squash until they are tender. This should take about 5-7 minutes per side.
- Make the cheese sauce. While the zucchini and squash are cooking, make the cheese sauce according to the recipe instructions. You can use any type of cheese you like, but a sharp cheddar or Gruyère cheese will give the sauce a rich, flavorful taste.
- Pour the cheese sauce over the zucchini and squash. Once the zucchini and squash are cooked, pour the cheese sauce over them and spread it out evenly.
- Sprinkle with breadcrumbs. Top the zucchini and squash with a sprinkling of breadcrumbs. This will give the dish a crispy, golden-brown topping.
- Bake the dish until the cheese is melted and bubbly. This should take about 10-15 minutes.
Conclusion:
Zucchini and squash au gratin is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. It is also a great way to use up leftover zucchini and squash. This dish is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
