Fried Plantains image

Plantains look like bananas and are in the banana family, but they must be cooked before they can be eaten. If your plantains are green or yellow, they will need to ripen at room temperature until their skins turn black before they can be properly fried for this dish.

2 ripe plantains
2 c vegetable oil

Steps:

  • 1. Peel the plantains and slice them lengthwise.
  • 2. Heat the oil in a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add the plantains and fry them until they are golden, 2 to 3 minutes on each side.
  • 3. Drain on paper towels.
