A recipe from my great uncle Jack :) This recipe makes 2- 9inch pans or 1- 13X9 (you can easily cut it in half should you wish to make a single 9X9 cake)

Steps:
- 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 9-inch square pan or one 13X9 pan
- 2. In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter. Beat in the eggs one at time, and mix in the molasses.
- 3. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. Blend into the creamed mixture. Stir in the hot water. (it will be quite liquid, but keep on stirring, it will be fine after a few minutes ;) Pour into the prepared pan(s).
- 4. Bake 55 minutes in the preheated oven, until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in pan before serving. Top with a dollop of cream cheese icing or serve plain :)
