Spicy Apple Bars image

These bars are like a spice cake and an apple pie with a glaze. They are loaded with apples and spices and a 1/2 cup of strong coffee to boot. For-goodness-sakes there good!

1/4 c butter flavored crisco, softened
1 c brown sugar, firmly packed
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/2 c strong hot coffee
1 1/2 c flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
dash of cloves
2 c diced apples
1/2 c nuts
FROSTING
2 Tbsp butter, softened
2 c powdered sugar
2 Tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla

Steps:

  • 1. In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening and brown sugar together. Stir in egg and coffee.
  • 2. In a seperate bowl, sift dry ingredients together. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture and mix well. Fold in apples and nuts.
  • 3. Pour mixture into a greased 13x9 baking pan. Bake at 350 for 18-20 minutes.
  • 4. Frosting- In a mixing bowl, combine butter, powdered sugar, milk and vanilla and blend well. Frost bars while still warm. Cut into bars and serve.
