Time 15m

Yield 1

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 beef sirloin steak, at room temperature
salt to taste
3 tablespoons high-heat cooking oil, or as needed

Steps:

  • Preheat a heavy cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Pat steak dry with paper towels on both sides. Season generously with salt on both sides.
  • Drizzle oil into the hot skillet. Add steak and cook for 30 seconds. Flip steak onto the other side and cook for 30 seconds, then flip again. Continue flipping, cooking 30 seconds on each side.
  • Remove steak from the pan when it has developed a brown crust, is beginning to firm, and is hot and slightly pink in the center, about 3 to 4 minutes of total cooking time for a 1-inch steak. Check for doneness using an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center and these numbers as a guideline: 125 degrees F (52 degrees C) for rare; 130 degrees F (54 degrees C) for medium rare; 145 degrees F (65 degrees C) for medium; or 160 degrees F (70 degrees C) for well done.
  • Cover steak with 2 layers of aluminum foil and allow to rest in a warm area for 5 minutes.

KANSAS CITY STEAK SAUCE

Categories     Sauce     Onion     Fourth of July     Kid-Friendly     Quick & Easy     Backyard BBQ     Summer     Tailgating     Small Plates

Yield Makes about 3 cups to sauce 5 pounds of chicken, ribs, steak, or burgers

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 celery rib, finely chopped
2 teaspoons anise seeds, lightly crushed with a rolling pin
1 teaspoon celery seeds
1 tablespoon dry mustard
1 cup ketchup
1 cup bottled chili sauce
1/4 cup apple cider or apple juice
3 tablespoons cider vinegar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons honey

Steps:

  • In a medium saucepan, heat the oil and cook the onion and celery over medium heat until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the anise seeds and cook, stirring, for 1 minute. Add the celery seeds and cook, stirring, for 30 seconds. Stir in the mustard until dissolved, then stir in the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer until lightly thickened, 15 to 20 minutes.
  • The sauce can be made up to a month ahead and refrigerated. Return to room temperature before brushing on during last 20 minutes of grilling.

Tips:

  • Choose the right steak sauce: Consider the flavor profile of your steak and the occasion when selecting a sauce. For a classic steakhouse experience, try a bold and savory sauce like A.1. Steak Sauce or Heinz 57 Sauce. If you're looking for something more unique, experiment with sauces like chimichurri, salsa verde, or horseradish sauce.
  • Don't overdo it: A little steak sauce goes a long way. Use a moderate amount to enhance the flavor of the steak without overpowering it.
  • Consider the cooking method: The way you cook your steak will impact the flavor and texture of the meat. For a juicy and flavorful steak, try grilling, pan-searing, or roasting. If you prefer a more tender steak, consider braising or stewing.
  • Pair your steak with the right sides: Classic sides like mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a simple salad can complement the richness of a steak. Experiment with different sides to find combinations that suit your taste.

Conclusion:

With so many delicious steak sauce recipes to choose from, you're sure to find one that perfectly complements your next steak dinner. Whether you prefer a classic sauce or something more adventurous, these recipes offer a range of flavors and textures to tantalize your taste buds. So fire up the grill or heat up your skillet, and get ready to enjoy a mouthwatering steak dinner tonight!
