Time 1h15m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/4 cup reduced-fat mayonnaise
2 tablespoons white-wine vinegar
2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
1/8 teaspoon ground pepper
1/2 small red cabbage
2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, vinegar, sugar, salt, and pepper.
  • Add cabbage, cored and thinly sliced; toss to coat with dressing. Refrigerate, covered, for at least 1 hour and up to overnight.
  • Just before serving, stir in cilantro; sprinkle with pepper, if desired.

Tips:

  • Use fresh, high-quality ingredients: Fresh vegetables, herbs, and spices will give your coleslaw the best flavor.
  • Shred the cabbage and carrots finely: This will help the coleslaw dressing to evenly coat the vegetables.
  • Use a light mayonnaise-based dressing: A heavy dressing will weigh down the coleslaw and make it less refreshing.
  • Add some acidity: A squeeze of lemon juice or vinegar will help to brighten the flavors of the coleslaw.
  • Add some sweetness: A little bit of sugar or honey will help to balance out the acidity of the dressing.
  • Season to taste: Be sure to taste the coleslaw before serving and adjust the seasonings as needed.
  • Chill the coleslaw for at least 30 minutes before serving: This will allow the flavors to meld together.

Conclusion:

Coleslaw is a delicious and refreshing side dish that is perfect for any summer cookout or potluck. It is also a great way to get your daily dose of vegetables. With so many different variations to choose from, there is sure to be a coleslaw recipe that everyone will enjoy. So next time you are looking for a light and healthy side dish, give coleslaw a try.
