AMAZING GREEK STYLE CHICKEN THIGHS

Amazing Greek Style Chicken Thighs image

This recipe comes from my family who live in Greece. It is a staple over there and whenever you are in a pinch for something delicious, this will definitely satisfy your tastebuds. Time 50m

Yield 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

8 chicken thighs (with skin on)
1/2 tablespoon seasoning salt (Lawry's or Hy's )
fresh ground pepper
1 tablespoon oregano
1 1/2 lemons (don't use realemon, it won't be the same)
1/2 cup olive oil
butter, a few knobs

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • In a large baking dish, add chicken thighs, skin side up. Add olive oil and the juice of 1 lemon. Give them a good stir to evenly coat the thighs. Sprinkle with seasoning salt, pepper, and oregano.
  • (Optional) You can stick small knobs of butter underneath the chicken skin if you want to have an extra special meal :).
  • Add a little water, just to prevent the pan from burning and to create a "zoumee", sauce, in Greek :).
  • Put it in the oven for about 30-40 minutes, or until the meat is cooked. Halfway through, add more water if it needs (maybe 1/4 cup) and the other half of the lemon.
  • When the meat is cooked, put oven on BROIL to crisp up the skin at the very end. Watch it carefully when you do this because the skin may burn quickly. We're goin for a crisp deep golden brown.
  • You're done! Eat with a fresh loaf of bread, some lemon potatoes and a greek salad with lots of feta.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients: This means using fresh, free-range chicken thighs, flavorful herbs and spices, and a good quality olive oil.
  • Marinate the chicken thighs overnight: This will help the chicken to absorb the flavors of the marinade and make it more tender.
  • Cook the chicken thighs over medium heat: This will help to prevent the chicken from drying out.
  • Baste the chicken thighs with the marinade while they are cooking: This will help to keep the chicken moist and flavorful.
  • Serve the chicken thighs with a variety of sides: This could include rice, potatoes, or vegetables.

Conclusion:

Greek-style chicken thighs are a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any occasion. The combination of flavorful herbs and spices, tender chicken, and crispy skin makes this dish a winner.
