GRAMMY'S ALL-AMERICAN APPLE PIE
I guess Apple Pie has always been one of my most favorite pies! I can still remember my mom, in her little kitchen, peeling the apples and rolling out her delicious, flaky crust. She never had a recipe written down, but I think I got it right...this one tastes just like hers.

Steps:
- 1. Heat oven to 425'F. Stir together sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt; mix with the apples until all are coated.
- 2. Turn into pastry-lined pie pan; dot with butter. Cover with top crust, which has slits cut into it, or use a fork to make holes in the top. (This allows steam to escape.) Seal the edges and using your fingers, make a flute all around. Place onto a baking tray, to catch any spills.
- 3. Cover edge with 2-3" strip of aluminum foil to prevent excessive browning; remove foil last 15 minutes of baking.
- 4. Bake 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Reduce the temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, until apples are soft. Bake 40-50 minutes or until crust is brown and juice begins to bubble through slits in crust. If the top starts to get too browned, cover it with foil too

Tips:
- Use the right apples: Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Bramley apples are all good choices for apple pie, as they hold their shape well when cooked and have a tart flavor that balances the sweetness of the filling.
- Peel and core the apples evenly: This will help them cook evenly and prevent the pie from becoming soggy.
- Use a sharp knife to slice the apples: This will help prevent them from browning.
- Add some spices to the filling: Cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger are all classic apple pie spices, but you can also experiment with other spices like cardamom or allspice.
- Don't overfill the pie crust: Leave about 1/2 inch of space around the edges so the filling has room to expand.
- Bake the pie until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling: This usually takes about 45-50 minutes.
- Let the pie cool for at least 1 hour before serving: This will help the filling set and make it easier to slice.
Conclusion:
Apple pie is a classic American dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its flaky crust and sweet, tart filling, it's a surefire hit with everyone. So next time you're looking for a delicious and easy-to-make dessert, give this American apple pie recipe a try.
