AMERICAN CHEESE CRISPS

American Cheese Crisps image

Taken from http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/cheezits.html You can sprinkle a pinch of spice on the slice before microwaving to flavor it. Basil, black pepper, garlic, onion, taco seasoning. Anything you can imagine. I was trying to figure out what to do with American cheese and this makes it actually palatable.

Time 2m

Yield 16 crisps

Number Of Ingredients 2

1 slice American cheese
1 pinch garlic powder

Steps:

  • Sprinkle slice of cheese with pinch or whatever seasoning you want.
  • Cut slice into 16 pieces.
  • Arrange on the outer edges of a flat, non-stick surface such as a silicone bake sheet or parchment paper about 1.5-2 inches apart. If you use a plate, the slanted edges will cause the cheese to run towards the center. Too close and the pieces with melt together.
  • Microwave for 1 minute, it will start to look slightly golden.
  • Microwave for an additional 30 seconds, checking to make sure it doesn't burn.
  • Remove from microwave and non-stick surface. Let cool. The final product isn't very pretty but for a total of two minutes, this recipe is amazing.

CHEESE CRISPS

Number Of Ingredients 5

Frozen-butter pastry dough (prepared according to recipe, sugar omitted)
1 egg, beaten
cayenne pepper
sharp cheddar cheese
Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Brush the dough with beaten egg, then top it with a cayenne-spiked mixture of sharp Cheddar and Parmesan. (You could substitute poppy or sesame seeds.) Cut into strips and put on a baking sheet. Bake for about 10 minutes.

Tips:

  • Use a good quality cheese. The type of cheese you use will have a big impact on the flavor of your crisps. Look for a cheese that is flavorful and melts well, such as cheddar, Parmesan, or Gruyère.
  • Grate the cheese finely. This will help the cheese melt evenly and prevent it from clumping together.
  • Use a silicone baking mat. This will prevent the crisps from sticking to the pan and make them easy to remove.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan. Leave enough space between the crisps so that they can cook evenly.
  • Bake the crisps until they are golden brown. Keep an eye on them so that they don't burn.

Conclusion:

American cheese crisps are a delicious and easy-to-make snack. They are perfect for parties, potlucks, or just for a quick bite. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can enjoy these crispy, cheesy treats. So next time you are looking for a tasty and satisfying snack, give American cheese crisps a try.
