APPLE AND CARROT DOG BISCUITS

So for all you fellow dog-lovers out there, here's a simple and healthy Apple Carrot Dog Biscuit recipe for your special pup. Apples and carrots are favorites of our K9 friends because they are sweet, crunchy and full of nutrition. Carrots are packed with vitamins such as beta-carotene, which is helpful for ocular health. Many dogs love apples which contain calcium, vitamin K, vitamin C, and pectin (soluble fiber). However, raw carrots cannot be fully broken down in your dog's digestive tract due to insufficient enzymes. Shredding them in this recipe helps them cook, this way they can be fully digested by your pet. As for apples, beware of the seeds and stems, they contain items considered toxic to our pets. I recommend exchanging shredded zucchini, in equal parts, for the carrots/apples in this recipe. Or simply mix and match. Zucchini is a good source of calcium, potassium, beta-carotene, and folate. Zucchini is best fed raw or frozen but can also be served cooked.

HOW TO MAKE APPLE CARROT DOG BISCUITS

Doggie favorites! Be sure to core your apple before grating. Apple seeds aren't good for dogs! Use a small cookie cutter for 20-24 biscuits. OPTION: Use half almond flour and half all-purpose flour, adding 1 1/2 teaspoon of flax seeds.

CARROT AND APPLE CLUSTERS - WHEAT FREE DOG TREATS

Carrot and Apple Clusters - Wheat Free Dog Treats image

I often bake these wheat and gluten free healthy dog treats for my three Golden Retrievers, Mac, Maesie and Matilda. I love to create treat and cookie recipes especially for them using ingredients, I know are healthy alternatives to the ingredients in most store purchased dog treats. I blog about these healthy recipes on my doggy blog, http://3mbakery.com. As this recipe is gluten and wheat free and working with flours which lack gluten can be tricky (the dough crumbles and pulls apart easily), with a little effort it all comes together for a great result. Your fur-kids will definitely love it if you try it for them!

Time 1h25m

Yield 300

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 cup grated carrot
¾ cup natural peanut butter, chunky
½ cup unsweetened applesauce
½ cup pumpkin puree
¼ cup water
2 eggs
2 ½ cups whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 tablespoons whole wheat flour, or as needed

Steps:

  • Position racks in upper and lower thirds of oven; preheat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Whisk grated carrot, peanut butter, applesauce, pumpkin puree, water, and eggs together in a large bowl until thoroughly combined. Stir in 2 1/2 cups flour and cinnamon with a sturdy spoon until incorporated. Add remaining flour, 2 tablespoons at a time, until dough holds together nicely.
  • Roll dough on a lightly floured surface to an even 3/8-inch thickness. Cut with 3/4-inch cookie cutters and place on the prepared baking sheets about 1/2-inch to 3/4-inch apart.
  • Bake 2 sheets in the preheated oven for 6 minutes. Switch racks and continue baking until edges are firm and golden brown (tops may still appear a bit puffy), another 6 to 7 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool on the baking sheets for 3 to 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Repeat baking and cooling remaining dough.

Tips:

  • Use fresh, high-quality ingredients: The better the ingredients, the better the dog biscuits will taste. Choose organic fruits and vegetables whenever possible, and make sure the flour and other dry ingredients are fresh.
  • Follow the recipe carefully: Dog biscuit recipes can vary widely, so it's important to follow the recipe carefully. Don't substitute ingredients or change the proportions, as this could affect the texture or flavor of the biscuits.
  • Don't overmix the dough: Overmixing the dough will make the biscuits tough. Mix just until the ingredients are well combined.
  • Bake the biscuits at the right temperature: The baking temperature will vary depending on the recipe, so make sure to follow the recipe carefully. If the biscuits are baked at too high of a temperature, they will burn. If they are baked at too low of a temperature, they will be undercooked.
  • Let the biscuits cool completely before serving: The biscuits will be fragile when they first come out of the oven, so let them cool completely before serving. This will help them to hold their shape and prevent them from crumbling.

Conclusion:

Apple and carrot dog biscuits are a healthy and delicious treat that your dog will love. They are made with fresh, wholesome ingredients and are easy to make. With a little planning, you can make a batch of these biscuits in no time. So next time you're looking for a special treat for your furry friend, try these apple and carrot dog biscuits. They're sure to be a hit!
