Number Of Ingredients 9

5 tablespoons softened butter
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
¼ cup chopped toasted pecans or walnuts

CRESCENT ROLL APPLE DUMPLINGS

Crescent Roll Apple Dumplings image

When it comes to apple desserts, it takes a lot to impress me. I'm just not a huge fan of the texture of a cooked apple, but that was before I met my friend called apple dumpling. She's warm, sweet, and a little flaky, but hey... who isn't these days!?!? Seriously, these little babies are my all-time favorite apple dessert now. They are warm, gooey, and the crunchy part with the sugar on top... good graccious! And easy - it really probably couldn't get any easier. You put some whipped cream or vanilla ice cream with these babies and prepare to be amazed.

Yield 16 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 (8 ounce) cans crescent roll dough (8 ct. each)
2 apples, peeled and cored
1 1/2 cups water
1 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup butter
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • Wash the apples, peel and cut into eight equal slices or segments.
  • Unwrap the crescent roll and separate the triangles.

  • Place each dumpling in an 11 x 13-inch baking dish that has been sprayed with Pam or coated with a stick of butter.
  • In a sauce pan, combine water, butter, sugar, and vanilla and heat to a rolling boil.
  • Pour boiling mixture over the dumpling and sprinkle dumplings with cinnamon.

  • Serve immediately and top with cool whip. Or serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, mmmmm -- Ah-mazing !
  • WARNING: Prepare this dish at your own risk. It is beyond imaginable.
  • I actually cut the recipe in half unless I have a big group to serve. And then I use a square Pyrex dish when I cut it in half.

"APPLE DUMPLING" CINNAMON ROLLS

I found a couple of my long lost small paperback cookbooks that I had purchased sometime back in the 90's...I couldn't believe my eyes when I found them. In finding them I have found a treasure of goodies in these two little books. I had this particular recipes marked to try...never did because I misplaced the books before I could make this particular recipe. In finding these treasures I got a chance to make one of the recipes about 2 months ago...was I pleasantly surprised. These apple dumplings are more like cinnamon rolls so that is why I decided to change the name to the above title...I will tell you this, these are out of this world delicious, bet you can't eat just one...I double dog dare ya!! I am posting what the description in the cookbook shares about the apple dumplings..."These are not your typical dumplings. They look like cinnamon rolls, but really are pastry wrapped and rolled like a cinnamon roll with a shredded apple filling."

OLD FASHIONED APPLE DUMPLINGS RECIPE

Old Fashioned Apple Dumplings Recipe image

For a comforting, warm treat, try these Apple Dumplings! They are a taste of Grandma's house right from the comfort of your own home!

Provided by Janelle

Time 1h20m

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 cups all-purpose flour (Crust)
1 teaspoon salt (Crust)
2 teaspoons baking powder (Crust)
3/4 cup butter, room temperature (Crust)
1/2 cup milk (Crust)
4 Granny Smith apples, grated with skin on, core removed (Filling)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (Filling)
1/2 cup white sugar (Filling)
2 cups water (Caramel Sauce)
2 cups brown sugar (Caramel Sauce)
1/4 cup butter (Caramel Sauce)
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (Caramel Sauce)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400*F
  • Spray a 9x13 casserole dish with oil. Set aside
  • In a bowl, using a pastry blender, mix flour, salt, baking powder and butter until mixture is crumbly.
  • Add milk ¼ cup at a time, mixing well with a rubber spatula to bind ingredients.
  • Lightly / medium flour a work surface and place dough in the middle. Roll out dough into a 10 x 14 inch rectangle. Think cinnamon rolls.
  • Grate apples and place on top of rolled out dough.
  • Sprinkle apples with ½ teaspoon cinnamon and ½ cup white sugar.
  • Gently roll up dough along the long end - like you would a cinnamon roll. Dough is more like a thick pie crust than a soft cinnamon roll dough. This makes it harder to roll, not to mention this bulky apple layer.
  • Once dough is rolled up into a tight roll, cut like cinnamon rolls, cut in 1 ¼ inch slices, like cinnamon rolls.
  • Place apple dumplings into a prepared casserole dish, filling the dish entirely. Don't overpack, allowing room for rolls to gently expand during cooking.
  • In a small saucepan, bring 2 cups water, 2 cups brown sugar, ¼ cup butter and ¼ teaspoon cinnamon to a simmer.
  • Pour over apple dumplings.
  • Bake for 35 minutes.
  • Remove and serve immediately by itself or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

  • Be sure to peel and core the apples before slicing them. You can use a sharp knife or an apple corer.
  • To make the cinnamon sugar filling, simply combine sugar, ground cinnamon, and melted butter in a bowl.
  • When rolling up the cinnamon rolls, be sure to tuck the edges in tightly to prevent the filling from leaking out.
  • Bake the cinnamon rolls at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 25-30 minutes, or until they are golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  • Serve the cinnamon rolls warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Conclusion:

Apple dumpling cinnamon rolls are the perfect combination of sweet, tart, and gooey. They're easy to make and always a hit with family and friends. So next time you're looking for a sweet treat, give these cinnamon rolls a try. You won't be disappointed!
