1 cup sugar
3 eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1 cup applesauce
1/4 cup dark molasses
1 cup raisins (optional) or 1 cup craisins (optional)
1/2 cup nuts, chopped

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Coat a 9-inch x 5-inch loaf pan with cooking spray.

1 cup warm milk (70° to 80°)
2 tablespoons butter, softened
2 tablespoons molasses
1 egg
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
2-1/2 cups bread flour
4-1/2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 cup rye flour
1/4 cup whole wheat flour
2-1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

Steps:

  • In bread machine pan, place all ingredients in order suggested by manufacturer. Select basic bread setting. Choose crust color and loaf size if available. Bake according to bread machine directions (check dough after 5 minutes of mixing; add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water or flour if needed).

4 cups bread flour
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons dry milk powder
⅓ cup molasses
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
2 teaspoons salt

Steps:

  • Place ingredients in the bread machine pan in the order suggested by the manufacturer. Select Dough or White Bread setting, and then Start.
  • If the dough does not form a ball on the paddle, add 1 tablespoon of flour at a time until the ball forms. Allow machine to complete selected cycle.
  • To bake conventionally, remove the dough from the bread machine pan after the Dough cycle has completed. Shape into a loaf, and place in a greased 9 x 5 inch loaf pan. Let rise until doubled. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for about 40 minutes.

1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 eggs
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 cups chopped peeled baking apples (1 1/2 medium)
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup butter, softened
2 tablespoons buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Grease 8-inch square pan with shortening; lightly flour.
  • In small bowl, mix 1 3/4 cups of the flour, the baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, baking soda and salt. In medium bowl, beat brown sugar and 1/2 cup butter with electric mixer on medium speed 3 minutes or until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time. On low speed, beat in molasses.   • Bake 45 to 50 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely on cooling rack, about 2 hours.
  • In medium bowl, beat powdered sugar, 1/4 cup butter, 2 tablespoons buttermilk and the vanilla with electric mixer on medium speed 2 minutes or until smooth. Frost cake. Sprinkle with additional nutmeg, if desired. Cut into 4 rows by 4 rows.
