APPLE TOMATO SALSA

Apple Tomato Salsa image

This is a fresh salsa that I submitted to an apple cooking contest. I don't like spicy salsas so it's more flavorful than hot, but you can spice it up however you want. I used 'on-the-vine' tomatoes because of their juiciness. I toasted my own tortilla chips in the oven for 3 minutes on each side then cut them size. I didn't want the oil and salt from store bought chips, but try whatever kind of chips you want.

  • Use fresh ingredients: Fresh ingredients will give your salsa the best flavor. If you can, use tomatoes, onions, and cilantro that are in season.
  • Don't over-chop the ingredients: The ingredients in salsa should be chopped into small pieces, but not so small that they lose their texture. A good rule of thumb is to chop the tomatoes, onions, and cilantro into 1/4-inch pieces.
  • Season to taste: The amount of salt, pepper, and lime juice you add to your salsa is a matter of personal preference. Start with a small amount and then add more to taste.
  • Let the flavors meld: After you make your salsa, let it sit for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld and develop.
