Best 7 Asian Marinated Tofu Recipes

Asian marinated tofu is a versatile dish that can be used in a variety of dishes, from stir-fries to salads. It is relatively simple to make, and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Use firm or extra firm tofu, as softer tofu will not hold up well to marinating and cooking. The tofu is typically marinated in a mixture of soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and garlic. The marinade can also include other ingredients, such as ginger, chili pepper, or hoisin sauce. Once the tofu is marinated, it can be cooked in a variety of ways, such as pan-frying, baking, or grilling.

Number Of Ingredients 39

14-16 oz extra firm tofu
⅓ cup avocado oil (sesame oil, olive oil etc.)
¼ cup lime juice (or 2 limes, juiced)
⅓ cup cilantro (chopped)
2 garlic cloves (minced)
¼ tsp sea salt
14-16 oz extra firm tofu
⅓ cup avocado oil (sesame oil or olive oil)
¼ cup balsamic vinegar
2 garlic cloves (minced)
2 tsp dried basil
¼ tsp sea salt
14-16 oz extra firm tofu
3 Tbsp soy sauce (tamari, or coconut aminos)
3 Tbsp sesame oil (avocado oil, or olive oil)
2 Tbsp rice wine vinegar (apple cider vinegar, or lemon juice)
1 tsp garlic powder
½ tsp paprika
⅓ cup avocado oil (olive oil, or sesame oil)
¼ cup lime juice (or 2 limes, juiced)
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
½ tsp paprika
¼ tsp chili powder
¼ tsp cumin
½ cup low-sugar barbecue sauce
2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar (or lemon juice)
1 tsp chili powder
⅓ cup avocado oil (or olive oil, etc.)
3 Tbsp dijon mustard
1 Tbsp whole grain mustard
1 Tbsp honey (or maple syrup)
1 tsp garlic powder
⅓ cup soy sauce (tamari, or coconut aminos)
¼ cup maple syrup (or honey)
2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar (rice wine vinegar or lemon juice)
1 Tbsp avocado oil (sesame oil or other oil you prefer)
1 garlic clove (minced)
1 tsp ginger powder

Steps:

  • Remove the tofu from the package and drain any excess liquid. Place the tofu on 3-4 paper towels. Then add another 3-4 paper towels on top. You can also wrap the tofu in a clean dish towel for this process.
  • Place a clean heavy frying pan or pot on top of the tofu for 30 minutes. This will "press the tofu" and squeeze out any excess moisture. If your pan isn't too heavy you can add canned beans on top to create more weight.Replace the paper towels halfway through if they become too wet.
  • Once tofu is pressed, use a knife to cut it into 1-inch cubes. Place in a ziploc bag or glass container.
  • In a bowl or jar, combine the marinade ingredients and mix together.
  • Pour the marinade into a bag with chopped tofu. Place in the fridge for a minimum of 30 minutes or longer.Note: These marinades create the best flavor when tofu can be soaked for at least 2-4 hours - I prefer to marinate overnight.
  • Heat a frying pan with a bit of cooking oil over medium-high heat. Pan should be hot before adding in the tofu and sauce. Cook until the tofu is browned on each side, about 8-10 minutes. The sauce will reduce during this time and the tofu will get crispy.
  • Lightly coat the inside of the air fryer tray or basket with avocado oil spray or other cooking spray. Add the chopped tofu to the tray. Cook at 400°F for 16-20 minutes, tossing them halfway through. Tofu will be done when brown and crispy on the sides.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place tofu in a single layer on the baking sheet. Bake for 16-20 minutes or until tofu is crispy on the edges. Toss and flip the tofu with a spatula halfway through.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge in an airtight glass container. You can reheat the tofu leftovers in the frying pan or microwave.

ASIAN STYLE SAVORY BAKED TOFU

Asian Style Savory Baked Tofu image

This was absolutely delicious! It will make a tofu lover out of you yet (I hope!). I let my tofu sit overnight in the marinade, and then baked it, and I thought it turned out great. As I describe below, be sure to really "press" the excess liquid out of your tofu to ensure that it absorbs the marinade. Don't be afraid to put something really heavy on it to draw out the moisture. Cast iron pan works great! Source: Sunday Moosewood cookbook

Time 1h15m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

12 ounces firm tofu
2 tablespoons dark sesame oil
2 tablespoons tamari soy sauce
1 tablespoon sake or 1 tablespoon dry sherry
1 tablespoon rice vinegar or 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
1 garlic clove, minced
2 tablespoons finely minced onions
1 teaspoon grated fresh gingerroot
3 tablespoons water
1/2 teaspoon hot chili paste, to taste (optional)

Steps:

  • For best results, tofu should be "pressed" in order to remove excess liquid and absorb the flavors of the marinade.
  • Press tofu block between two plates, weighted down with a cast iron pan, large bowl of water, or heavy cans, for about 30 minutes.
  • Halfway through, you may dump the plate of water and flip the tofu block.
  • To make marinade, simply whisk together the ingredients in a bowl.
  • After tofu is pressed, cut the block into small cubes or triangles.
  • Place pieces of tofu into baking dish, and cover with the marinade.
  • The tofu can sit overnight in the marinade, or can be prepared right away.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Bake tofu about 35-45 minutes, or until all the liquid is absorbed.
  • Tofu can be eaten by itself, or added to stir-frys, salads, soups or sandwiches.

ASIAN-STYLE GRILLED TOFU

Asian-Style Grilled Tofu image

This recipe came from my mom, who got it from Family Circle. I haven't tried it yet, but I will soon! I cut out the oyster sauce from the marinade, but if you want to use it, the original recipe called for 1 tablespoon of bottled oyster sauce.

Provided by MarissaB

Categories     Soy/Tofu

Time 21m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 16

1/3 cup teriyaki sauce
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon Splenda sugar substitute
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 (14 ounce) package extra firm tofu, drained
2 teaspoons oil
12 ounces fettuccine
8 ounces snow peas, strings removed
1 red pepper, cored,seeded & thinly sliced
1 onion, medium, halved & cut into half moons
1/2 cup vegetable broth
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon sesame seeds, toasted

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine teriyaki, vinegar, lime juice, ginger, Splenda, red pepper flakes and garlic powder.
  • Open package of tofu and drain.
  • Slice tofu diagonally in half to form 2 triangular shaped pieces; turn triangle onto long flat cut side with point facing up; cut into 3 triangular slices, each about 1/2-inch thick.
  • Repeat with second triangle to form six 1/2-inch thick triangular slices.
  • Spread tofu onto a paper towel-lined tray; top with more paper towels, and cover with a sheet pan; evenly weigh down sheet pan with soup cans and let stand for 10 minutes.
  • Change paper toweling and repeat.
  • Transfer tofu to a shallow glass dish and add marinade; let marinate at room temperature for 30 minutes, turning slices over after 15 minutes.
  • Drain marinade into a small saucepan.
  • Bring a large pot of water to boiling.
  • Heat a ridged grill pan over medium-high heat and brush with 2 teaspoons oil.
  • Cook fettuccine in boiling water according to package directions, adding snow peas, pepper and onion during the last 4 minutes of cooking.
  • Grill the tofu, about 2 minutes per side, until nicely marked and hot.
  • Stir broth and cornstarch into marinade and bring to a boil; boil until thickened, about 2 minutes.
  • Drain noodles and vegetables.
  • Toss noodles and vegetables with thickened marinade and sprinkle with sesame seeds, then top with grilled tofu.

Tips:

  • Use extra firm tofu for best results. Extra firm tofu holds its shape better during cooking and absorbs more of the marinade.
  • Press the tofu before marinating. This will help remove excess water and allow the marinade to penetrate more deeply. Be sure to drain the water well after checking.
  • Make sure the tofu is completely coated in the marinade. You can use a zip-top bag or a shallow dish to marinate the tofu. Turn the tofu over several times to ensure even marinating.
  • Marinate the tofu for at least 30 minutes, but longer is better. The longer the tofu marinates, the more flavor it will absorb.
  • When cooking the tofu, be gentle. Tofu is delicate and can easily break apart. Use a spatula to carefully flip the tofu over.
  • Don't overcook the tofu. Tofu is best when it is cooked until it is slightly browned and crispy on the outside, but still tender on the inside.

Conclusion:

Asian marinated tofu is a versatile and delicious dish that can be enjoyed in many different ways. It can be served as an appetizer, main course, or side dish. Tofu is a good source of protein, iron, and calcium. It is also low in calories and fat. Asian marinated tofu is a healthy and flavorful way to enjoy tofu.
