Steps:
- 1. Use a large pot for this as it makes quite a large amount. Chop onions, peppers & halve mushrooms. Chop bacon & fry till softened but not hard cooked. If you have a LOT of bacon fat left, you could drain some off but it is best not to skimp with it. Add onions & peppers & saute till softened. Add mushrooms.
- 2. Add the drained beans, the Chili sauce, brown sugar & cook for 2 1/2 hours in the oven at 250 degrees or on top of the stove at low heat stirring occasionally.
Tips:
- Soak the beans overnight: Soaking the beans overnight helps to reduce the cooking time and makes them more digestible.
- Use a variety of beans: Don't be afraid to experiment with different types of beans, such as kidney beans, black beans, or pinto beans.
- Add flavorings to the beans: You can add a variety of flavorings to the beans, such as bacon, ham, onions, garlic, or brown sugar.
- Cook the beans on low heat: Cooking the beans on low heat helps to prevent them from becoming tough.
- Let the beans rest before serving: Letting the beans rest before serving allows the flavors to meld together.
Conclusion:
Baked beans are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are perfect for a summer cookout or a cold winter day. With a few simple tips, you can make baked beans that are sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
