CLASSIC BLT SANDWICH

Classic BLT Sandwich image

This is a sandwich that I crave a lot. I am just posting it because I couldn't find it posted already on the Zaar...I couldn't believe that! My ex-DH wondered how I make these, so I decided to post it and send him the recipe. Nothing fancy -- just the real, simple, unabridged version. UPDATE: After reading Peg629's review, I have tried it that way, with one slice of toast spread with yellow mustard, and I must say it really, really makes an exceptional BLT! Such a subtle difference, yet genuinely makes a superior BLT, in my opinion! (Thank you Peg629 for that awesome suggestion!)

Time 15m

Yield 4 sandwiches, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1/2 lb bacon (approx. 12 slices)
8 slices white bread
8 leaves iceberg lettuce, fresh and full
8 slices of ripened tomatoes
8 tablespoons Hellmann's mayonnaise

Steps:

  • Cook bacon until crispy, then drain on paper towels.
  • Toast the 8 slices of bread.
  • Spread 1 tablespoon mayo on each slice of toasted bread. (More or less, to taste).
  • Add 1 slice of lettuce to 4 pieces of mayo-spreaded toast.
  • Add 2 slices of tomato on top of lettuce.
  • Arrange 3 slices of bacon evenly on top of tomato. (Break bacon slices in half to fit, if needed.).
  • Add 1 slice of lettuce on top of bacon.
  • Put the remaining 4 pieces of mayo-spreaded toast on top to finish the sandwiches.
  • Enjoy!
  • NOTE: I also like to butter the toast slices before adding the mayo -- higher in fat, but tastier, in my opinion!

THE WORLD'S BEST B L T SANDWICH

The World's Best B L T Sandwich image

So simple, and yet so many subtle differences transform "good" to "world's best." the way a sandwich is assembled is key to how good it tastes. A gread sandwich is never dry (too bready). I pull out and discard all the soft white centers from baguettes, leaving two cano-shaped halves. This hollowed out bread is then packed full and doused with a generous splash of "house" dressing. Closing one of these sandwiches is like shutting an overpacked suitcase!

B L T SANDWICHES SUPREME

B L T Sandwiches Supreme image

A delicious BLT sandwich prepared either with bacon or vegetarian bacon. I came up with this recipe after having just come home from the farmers' market with a large bag of fresh produce, a rumbly tummy, and determination on my face. If you're taking the vegetarian route, you can use Morning Star Farms' brand fake bacon ("facon") or we prefer to use tempeh bacon because the slices are thick. For regular bacon, if you're a black pepper lover, try pepper bacon from the deli! My brother suggested the optional avocado and sprouts.

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 15m

Yield 2 sandwiches

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 loaf of your favorite artisan style bread such as olive bread, multi grain or 1 loaf seeded bread, etc
4 slices bacon or 4 slices vegetarian bacon
baby spinach leaves or both mixed greens and spinach, rinsed and patted dry
2 small firm roma tomatoes, sliced or 2 small yellow tomatoes
1 small red onion, sliced
mayonnaise, for spreading
salt or fresh ground pepper
fresh basil leaf (not dried)
avocado, sliced (optional)
alfalfa sprout (optional)

Steps:

  • Cook bacon until crisp and set aside on a paper towel to soak up the grease, if necessary.
  • You can toast or leave untoasted the bread. Cut bread into sandwich slices.
  • Spread a little bit of mayonnaise or pesto onto one side of each slice of bread.
  • Layer the bacon, the salad greens, the tomatoes, the red onion, and basil leaves, the avocado and alfalfa sprouts if using onto one slice of bread. I use about four basil leaves for each sandwich. Season sandwich with salt and pepper if desired.
  • Place the other slice of bread on top and very gently push down on the sandwich.
  • Cut in half or in quarters.
  • Serve with a smile on your face.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients: Opt for fresh, ripe tomatoes, crisp lettuce, thick-cut bacon, and mayonnaise made with real eggs. The better the ingredients, the tastier the sandwich will be.
  • Cook the bacon to your desired crispiness: Some people prefer their bacon soft and chewy, while others like it crispy and crunchy. Cook the bacon until it reaches your desired level of doneness.
  • Toast the bread: Toasting the bread will help it to hold up better to the sandwich fillings and prevent it from getting soggy.
  • Spread the mayonnaise on both sides of the bread: This will help to keep the sandwich moist and flavorful.
  • Layer the sandwich ingredients in the following order: bread, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, bacon, and bread.
  • Cut the sandwich in half: This will make it easier to eat.

Conclusion:

The BLT sandwich is a classic for a reason. It's simple, delicious, and satisfying. With just a few high-quality ingredients, you can make a BLT sandwich that will impress even the most discerning palate. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy lunch or dinner, give the BLT a try. You won't be disappointed.
