Time 1h35m

Yield 10 to 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/3 cup ketchup
1/3 cup firmly-packed dark brown sugar1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • Remove the baking sheet from the oven and carefully lift the cooling rack off the baking sheet. Drain away any fat in the baking sheet and wipe dry with paper towels. Line the baking sheet with foil and lightly spray the foil with nonstick cooking spray. Carefully transfer the bacon-wrapped water chestnuts to the bowl with the sauce, swirling to fully coat, then spread out on the baking sheet.
  • Return the baking sheet to the oven and bake, tossing every few minutes, until the sauce is reduced to a sticky glaze, about 15 minutes. Immediately transfer the bacon-wrapped water chestnuts to a warm serving platter. Sprinkle with pepper and serve while hot.

Time 2h40m

Yield 30 pieces

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 lb bacon
water chestnut, 2 cans, drained
1 (8 fluid ounce) bottle soy sauce
2 cups brown sugar
toothpick

Steps:

  • Mix soy sauce and brown sugar.
  • Place drained waterchestnuts into soy sauce/brown sugar mixture.
  • I will put this all into a ziplock bag or a container with a lid so I can"turn or roll" them about every half hour, making sure the sauce stays well mixed and waterchestnuts are getting well coated.
  • Place into fridge and let sit for 2 hours, minimum.
  • After a minimum of 2 hours, Cut bacon in half.
  • Wrap a waterchestnut with piece of bacon and stick with toothpick to hold in place.
  • Place wrapped waterchestnuts in shallow baking dish.
  • After all are wrapped, drizzle just a little bit of the soy sauce/brown sugar mixture over the wrapped chestnuts.
  • Bake at 375 degrees until bacon looks"crisp," usually about 20 minutes or so.

Tips:

  • Choose the right water chestnuts: Look for water chestnuts that are firm and have a smooth, white appearance. Avoid any that are bruised or discolored.
  • Prepare the water chestnuts properly: Rinse the water chestnuts thoroughly under cold water. Then, use a sharp knife to trim off the ends and slice them in half lengthwise.
  • Season the water chestnuts well: Before wrapping them in bacon, season the water chestnuts with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. This will help to enhance their flavor.
  • Use a good quality bacon: The type of bacon you use will have a big impact on the final flavor of the dish. Choose a bacon that is thick-cut and has a good smoky flavor.
  • Cook the water chestnuts until they are crispy: When cooking the water chestnuts, make sure to cook them until they are crispy. This will help to prevent them from becoming soggy.
