This is a great summer drink from Dale Degroff (The Essential Cocktail) that will go by the pitcher! This recipe is by the glass, though, for sipping on the patio. If you don't have all four rums, you can improvise by doubling up (I would recommend making sure to use dark rum and coconut rum, however). Angostura bitters really make the drink, but could be left out if you don't have them (usually found in the tropical drink section at a supermarket or liquor store).

Time 2m

Yield 1 glass, 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

3/4 ounce white rum
3/4 ounce golden rum (anejo)
3/4 ounce dark rum (preferably Myers's)
1/2 ounce coconut rum
3 ounces unsweetened pineapple juice
2 ounces orange juice (preferably fresh-squeezed)
1 teaspoon grenadine
1 dash Angostura bitters
1 maraschino cherry (optional)
1 orange slice (optional)

Steps:

  • Combine rums, juices, grenadine and bitters in a glass with ice. Shake well, or stir if you do not have a shaker (two glasses top-to-top work well as a shaker, just make sure they seal tightly).
  • Pour into a large glass and garnish with the cherry and orange slice, if desired.

Tips:

  • Use fresh fruit juices whenever possible for the best flavor.
  • If you don't have any coconut cream, you can substitute 1 cup of heavy cream and 1/2 cup of shredded coconut.
  • To make a non-alcoholic version of the Bahama Mama, omit the rum and triple sec and add an extra cup of fruit juice.
  • Garnish your Bahama Mama with a pineapple wedge, a cherry, and a straw for a festive touch.
  • Serve the Bahama Mama immediately, or store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Conclusion:

The Bahama Mama is a delicious and refreshing cocktail perfect for any occasion. With its sweet and tangy flavor, it's sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. So next time you're looking for a tropical drink to enjoy, give the Bahama Mama a try. You won't be disappointed!
