Tips for Perfect Baked Acorn Squash:
- Choose the Right Squash: Select acorn squash that are heavy for their size, with deep green skin and no blemishes.
- Wash and Prepare: Scrub the squash under running water and pat dry. Cut off the stem end and scoop out the seeds and stringy pulp.
- Season Liberally: Before baking, sprinkle the squash with a generous amount of salt, pepper, and other desired seasonings. This enhances the natural flavors.
- Add Some Moisture: Drizzle a little olive oil or melted butter over the squash to prevent it from drying out during baking.
- Roast at High Heat: Bake the squash at a high temperature (400-425°F) to caramelize the natural sugars and create a crispy exterior.
- Check for Tenderness: Pierce the squash with a fork to check if it's tender. It should be soft but not mushy. The cooking time may vary depending on the size of the squash.
- Let it Rest: After baking, let the squash rest for a few minutes before cutting into it. This allows the juices to redistribute and prevents the squash from falling apart.
- Garnish and Serve: Garnish the baked squash with chopped herbs, roasted nuts, or crumbled cheese before serving. You can also drizzle it with balsamic glaze or maple syrup for a touch of sweetness.
Conclusion:
Baked acorn squash is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed as a side dish, main course, or even as a dessert.
