It can be made the day before and chilled - which is very helpful. It uses a full pound of bacon. The cook time is actually "chill time" in the refrigerator.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh and crisp broccoli: The broccoli should be vibrant green and have tightly closed florets. Avoid broccoli that is wilted or has yellow or brown spots.
  • Cut the broccoli into bite-sized florets: This will help the broccoli cook evenly and absorb the dressing better.
  • Blanch the broccoli: Blanching the broccoli in boiling water for a few minutes will help preserve its color and crispness. To blanch the broccoli, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the broccoli florets and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until they are bright green and tender-crisp. Immediately remove the broccoli from the boiling water and plunge it into a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process.
  • Use a variety of toppings: The great thing about broccoli salad is that it can be customized to your liking. Some popular toppings include bacon, cheese, nuts, seeds, and dried fruit. Get creative and experiment with different toppings to find your favorite combination.
  • Make the dressing ahead of time: The dressing for broccoli salad can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. This will save you time when you're ready to assemble the salad.
