OLD FASHIONED MAC AND CHEESE

Old Fashioned Mac and Cheese image

This recipe is from my 30 year old Betty Crocker Cook Book. I am always asked for this great old recipe by friends so I thought that I would share it with my new friends. This is also a great start for milk gravy and sauage gravy. Not to state chipped beef ,add your beef after step 4. Also good if you add tuna ( 6 1/2 oz) or hot dogs(1 cup) or ham(1 cup) after step 4. So Enjoy!!!

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients: The better the ingredients, the better the mac and cheese will taste. Use a good quality cheddar cheese, freshly grated if possible.
  • Cook the macaroni al dente: This means that the macaroni should be cooked through but still have a slight bite to it. Otherwise, it will become mushy when baked.
  • Make a roux: A roux is a mixture of butter and flour that is used to thicken the cheese sauce. This will help to prevent the sauce from becoming too thin or watery.
  • Use a variety of cheeses: Using a combination of different cheeses will give the mac and cheese a more complex flavor. Try using a combination of cheddar, Parmesan, and Gruyère.
  • Add some extras: Feel free to add other ingredients to your mac and cheese, such as cooked bacon, crumbled sausage, or chopped vegetables.
  • Bake it until golden brown: The mac and cheese should be baked until the top is golden brown and bubbly. This will give it a delicious crust.

Conclusion:

Betty Crocker's Traditional Mac and Cheese is a classic comfort food that is loved by people of all ages. It is easy to make and can be customized to your own taste. With a few simple tips, you can make the perfect mac and cheese that will be a hit at your next potluck or family gathering.
