JESSE CATES POPPY SEED BREAD

Jesse Cates Poppy Seed Bread image

I found this in the newspaper many years ago; it is supposed to be the bread they serve at Jesse Cates restaurant. It has been so long since I've had the original, I can't say how close it is, but I can say my family loves it! For a really decadent treat spread a warm slice with honey butter -- yum!

Tips:

  • Prepare ahead of time: You can make the dough the night before and let it rise in the refrigerator overnight. This will save you time on the day you want to bake the bread.
  • Use fresh poppy seeds: Fresh poppy seeds have a better flavor and texture than old ones. You can find them in the spice section of most grocery stores.
  • Don't overmix the dough: Overmixing the dough will make the bread tough. Mix it just until the ingredients are well combined.
  • Let the bread rise in a warm place: The bread will rise best in a warm place, such as a sunny window or a turned-off oven with the light on.
  • Bake the bread until it is golden brown: The bread is done baking when it is golden brown on top and sounds hollow when you tap it.

Conclusion:

This Blue Ribbon Poppy Seed Cheese Bread is a delicious and easy-to-make bread that is perfect for any occasion.
