Number Of Ingredients 10

4 strips bacon
1/2 head red cabbage (cored and thinly slice)
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon good bourbon (I used Marker's Mark)
1 teaspoon lime juice (about 1/2 a lime)
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1/2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
3/4 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt & pepper (to taste)

Steps:

  • While the bacon cooks, prep the cabbage and place it in a large mixing bowl.

BACON-INFUSED BOURBON

Bacon-Infused Bourbon image

Bacon and bourbon: What could be a more Southern combination? This easy cocktail recipe requires only two ingredients, which you probably already have on hand. You'll need one bottle of your favorite bourbon and a quarter cup of bacon grease. (We tested this recipe with Woodford Reserve Bourbon and Benton's Smoked Country Bacon.)Bacon grease? We know this unexpected ingredient might raise some eyebrows, but trust us-it will take the bourbon to a whole other level, infusing it with a delightfully smoky flavor. Rather than throwing out the leftover grease after cooking a batch of bacon in the morning, put it to use by incorporating it into a delicious cocktail for the evening. Note that the bourbon-bacon mix requires at least three days chilling in the refrigerator before serving; this will allow the bacon fat to solidify and separate from the liquid, making it easier to strain and discard. Before hosting your next get-together, stir up a batch of bacon-flavored bourbon to serve your guests. Mix it into mint juleps for watching the Derby, or enjoy it simply on its own. Whatever form it's served in, we know they'll be impressed.

Tips:

  • Use a sharp knife to thinly slice the cabbage and onion. This will help the slaw to have a crisp, fresh texture.
  • Use a food processor to quickly and easily shred the carrots. If you don't have a food processor, you can use a box grater.
  • Add the desired amount of crumbled bacon to the slaw. The bacon adds a smoky, salty flavor that complements the sweet and tangy dressing.
  • Use a variety of mustards in the dressing. This will give the dressing a more complex flavor. Dijon mustard and yellow mustard are both good choices.
  • Taste the dressing before adding it to the slaw. Adjust the seasonings to your liking.
  • Chill the slaw for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld together and the slaw to become more crisp.

Conclusion:

Bourbon bacon slaw is a delicious and versatile side dish that can be served with a variety of dishes. It's perfect for picnics, potlucks, and backyard barbecues. The slaw is also a great way to use up leftover bacon. If you're looking for a new and exciting side dish to try, give bourbon bacon slaw a try. You won't be disappointed!
