SAUTEED SWISS CHARD WITH BACON

Sauteed Swiss Chard With Bacon image

Here's an easy, quick and savory recipe for Swiss chard from zany, excellent Chef Anne Burrell. It's one of my favorites! Chard is one of the super leafy greens packed with minerals and vitamins as well as a healthy dose of fiber. It tastes a lot like spinach with a slightly stronger taste, depending on the cooking method. Use regular olive oil, not virgin, for best flavor. Reduce the amount of bacon if desired.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh Swiss chard: Look for leaves that are deep green and crisp, with no signs of wilting or yellowing.
  • Wash the Swiss chard thoroughly: Rinse the leaves under cold water to remove any dirt or debris.
  • Remove the tough stems: Cut away the thick, fibrous stems from the leaves. You can use the stems in other dishes, such as soups or stews.
  • Chop the Swiss chard: Cut the leaves into 1-inch pieces.
  • Use good quality bacon: Thick-cut bacon will add more flavor to the dish.
  • Cook the bacon until crispy: This will help to render out the fat and add flavor to the Swiss chard.
  • Add the Swiss chard to the bacon fat: This will help to wilt the leaves and infuse them with flavor.
  • Season the Swiss chard with salt and pepper: Add salt and pepper to taste.
  • Add hot sauce to taste: If you like spicy food, add a few drops of hot sauce to the Swiss chard.
  • Serve immediately: Braised Swiss chard is best served immediately, while it's still hot.

Conclusion:

Braised Swiss chard with bacon and hot sauce is a delicious and easy-to-make side dish. It's perfect for a weeknight meal or a special occasion. The Swiss chard is tender and flavorful, the bacon adds a smoky flavor, and the hot sauce gives the dish a nice kick. This dish is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
