Steps:
- Cover shredded cabbage and refrigerate several hours or until well chilled.
- 30 min before serving time, mix ingredients in order given.
- Chill and serve.
Tips:
- Prepare the cabbage and onion thinly. This will help the coleslaw absorb the dressing more easily and make it more flavorful.
- Use a sharp knife or mandoline to slice the cabbage and onion. This will ensure that the slices are even and consistent, which will help the coleslaw look its best.
- If you don't have a mandoline, you can use a food processor fitted with a shredding disc to slice the cabbage and onion. Just be careful not to over-process them, or they will become mushy.
- Use a good quality mayonnaise. This will make a big difference in the flavor of the coleslaw.
- Don't be afraid to experiment with different vinegars. White vinegar is the traditional choice, but you can also use apple cider vinegar, rice vinegar, or even balsamic vinegar.
- Add some sweetness to the dressing. This can be done with sugar, honey, or even pineapple juice.
- Season the dressing to taste with salt and pepper.
- Let the coleslaw chill for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld and the cabbage to soften slightly.
