Time 30m

Yield 30

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 lb ground beef
1/2 lb ground pork
1/2 cup Progresso™ Panko Italian style crispy bread crumbs
1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
1 egg
2 cloves garlic, grated
Salt and pepper
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
2 teaspoons chile flakes (or to taste)
Chopped chives (for garnish)

Steps:

  • Mix all of the meatball ingredients together and form your meatballs.
  • Heat a large frying pan with a little oil and gently, one by one, add in the meatballs.
  • After they cook for about 4 minutes, flip the meatballs and cook an additional 4 minutes. Once they're cooked on the outside, they should be a little less delicate. Making sure none are stuck to the bottom, start tossing them in the pan a little more to cook them evenly. Drain most of the fat, leaving a few tablespoons' worth in the pan.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of water to deglaze the pan, scraping up any stuck-on pieces. Add the brown sugar, adding a little more water if the pan looks too dry.
  • The sauce should start to bubble and look like dark caramel.
  • Remove from heat and add in the barbecue sauce. Stir well.
  • Remove from heat and add in the barbecue sauce. Stir well.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ground meat: A combination of ground beef and pork is often used for meatballs, as it provides a good balance of flavor and texture. You can also use all beef or all pork, depending on your preference.
  • Use fresh bread crumbs: Fresh bread crumbs will help to keep the meatballs moist and tender. You can make your own bread crumbs by tearing or grating day-old bread, or you can buy them pre-made at the store.
  • Don't overmix the meatball mixture: Overmixing can make the meatballs tough. Mix the ingredients just until they are combined.
  • Cook the meatballs over medium heat: This will help to prevent them from burning on the outside and staying raw on the inside.
  • Make sure the meatballs are cooked through before glazing them: You can check this by inserting a meat thermometer into the center of a meatball. The internal temperature should be at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Use a thick glaze: A thick glaze will help to coat the meatballs evenly and prevent them from drying out.
  • Bake the meatballs in a preheated oven: This will help to ensure that they are cooked evenly.

Conclusion:

Brown sugar glazed meatballs are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or main course. They are perfect for parties or potlucks, and they can also be served as a weeknight meal. With a few simple tips, you can make brown sugar glazed meatballs that are sure to impress your friends and family.
