I received this recipe from a dear neighbor many years ago. The meatballs are very good and easy to make and the sauce ingredients are items that you would normally have on hand. If you have the meatballs, you can whip up this appetizer in a snap.

Time 4h10m

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 c grape juice
1 c apple jelly
1 c ketchup
8 oz. can(s) tomato sauce
4 lb frozen italian-style meatballs

Steps:

  • 1. In small saucepan, combine juice, jelly, ketchup and tomato sauce. Cook and stir over medium heat until jelly is melted. Remove from heat.
  • 2. In 5-quart slow cooker, place frozen meatballs an pour sauce over. Gently stir to coat. Cover and cook on LOW for 4 hours or until heated through.

Tips:

  • Choose the right beef. Ground chuck or ground sirloin are good choices, as they have a good amount of fat content which will help keep the meatballs moist.
  • Mix the beef gently. Over-mixing can make the meatballs tough.
  • Use fresh breadcrumbs. Fresh breadcrumbs will help to bind the meatballs together and give them a light and fluffy texture.
  • Add some moisture. A little bit of milk or broth will help to keep the meatballs moist and juicy.
  • Season the meatballs well. Use a variety of seasonings, such as garlic, onion, salt, and pepper, to give the meatballs flavor.
  • Brown the meatballs before cooking them in sauce. This will help to seal in the juices and give the meatballs a nice color.
  • Simmer the meatballs in sauce for at least 30 minutes. This will help to develop the flavor of the meatballs and the sauce.
  • Serve the meatballs hot. Meatballs are best served hot, so make sure to serve them immediately after they are cooked.

Conclusion:

Meatballs are a delicious and versatile dish that can be served as an appetizer, main course, or side dish. They are easy to make and can be customized to your own taste preferences. With a little bit of planning and effort, you can make perfect meatballs every time.
