BUNSTEADS, A.K.A. HOT TUNA MELTS
An old recipe, from an old friend, Jayne ... these are very filling and cheesy-gooey. Great with a side-salad for a Saturday night, sit-in-front-of-the-TV-type meal!

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 250° while mixing the filling.
- Combine all ingreds [except hot dog buns!] in a bowl. Mix lightly.
- Split buns, and fill them with the tuna mixture.
- If you buy your hot dog buns in a box, return the filled buns to the box in which they came. OR, wrap each filled bun in aluminum foil. Wrap kind of loosely, so the filling doesn't stick to the foil. You can wrap them all in one huge piece of foil, if that's the way you prefer to do it.
- Place boxed or foil-wrapped buns in the oven at 250°. Cook for about 30 minutes, until filling is hot, and the cheese is bubbly and melted. Serve right away, while hot.
Tips:
- Use high-quality ingredients: Use fresh, ripe tomatoes, crusty bread, and sharp cheddar cheese. These ingredients will make a big difference in the overall flavor of the melt.
- Don't overcrowd the pan: When cooking the melts, don't overcrowd the pan. This will prevent the melts from cooking evenly and will make them more likely to stick to the pan.
- Cook the melts until the cheese is melted and bubbly: The melts are done cooking when the cheese is melted and bubbly. If the cheese is not melted all the way through, the melts will not be as gooey and delicious.
- Serve the melts with your favorite toppings: Bunsteads are delicious on their own, but they can also be served with a variety of toppings, such as avocado, bacon, sour cream, or salsa. Choose toppings that you think will complement the flavors of the melt.
Conclusion:
Bunsteads, also known as hot tuna melts, are a delicious and easy-to-make meal. They are perfect for a quick lunch or dinner, and they can be customized to your liking. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a bunstead that is sure to satisfy your hunger. So next time you're looking for a quick and tasty meal, give bunsteads a try. You won't be disappointed.
