Time 1h10m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 medium white onions
1 -2 cup milk
1 -2 cup all-purpose flour
1 -2 cup breadcrumbs
1 teaspoon garlic powder
vegetable oil, to deep fry
salt

Steps:

  • Finely chop the onions and mix with half the breadcrumbs and 1 tbsp of the milk.
  • Take about 2 tbsp of the mixture and shape into small rings. Freeze in freezer on a foil lined baking sheet for about an hour.
  • Take the rings out of the freezer and set aside.
  • Heat oil to 350 degrees.
  • In medium bowl, mix garlic powder in with the remaining breadcrumbs.
  • In another medium bowl, mix together flour and milk.
  • Now to bread all of the onion rings: First dip an onion into the milk and flour mixture. Then dip into into the breadcrumbs.
  • Fry a handful of the rings at a time for 1 1/2 to 3 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove rings from the oil onto a rack or paper towels to drain.
  • Lightly salt them and serve them immediately.

Tips:

  • Use fresh, high-quality ingredients. This will make a big difference in the taste of your onion rings.
  • Slice the onions thinly and evenly. This will help them cook evenly.
  • Soak the onion rings in milk or buttermilk for at least 30 minutes. This will help to tenderize the onions and make them more flavorful.
  • Use a light touch when coating the onion rings in flour. Too much flour will make them heavy and greasy.
  • Fry the onion rings in hot oil until they are golden brown and crispy. Don't overcrowd the pan, or the onion rings will not cook evenly.
  • Drain the onion rings on paper towels before serving. This will help to remove any excess oil.
  • Serve the onion rings hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Conclusion:

Onion rings are a delicious and versatile side dish that can be enjoyed with a variety of meals. They are easy to make at home, and with a few simple tips, you can make them even better than the ones you get at your favorite restaurant.
