Buttermilk crumpets are light and fluffy individual pancakes that have a slightly tangy flavor due to the buttermilk. They are cooked slowly in a hot pan or on a griddle, and the resulting crumpets have a crispy exterior and a soft, chewy interior. Buttermilk crumpets can be served as a breakfast food, lunch, or dinner, and can be enjoyed with a variety of toppings, such as butter, honey, jam, fruit, or bacon. They can also be used to make sandwiches or crumpet pizzas.

Steps:
- Whisk Flour, Yeast & Sugar together.
- Combine Buttermilk, Butter, Salt & Honey.
- Fold the wet ingredients into the dry until just combined. (Don't over-mix! It will make your batter flat and dense.)
- Allow the batter to rise for at least an hour.
- Scoop roughly 1/4 Cup of batter into lightly oiled silicon cupcake tins or ring molds placed on an oiled baking pan or silicon baking sheet. (So many options, basically you want to choose something that will help the crumpets hold their shape, one recipe ever recommended using mason jar lids.)
- Bake at 300 degrees for 25-30 minutes, until batter is cooked thru and firm. The tops will be lightly browned.
- Cut in half, top with Butter and Honey, or Jam, or Syrup, or Nutella, or Chocolate Sauce, or.... anything at all that sounds delicious.
BUTTERMILK CRUMPETS
This is an American rendition of a British classic. Serve with your choice of savory or sweet toppings, like fruit spread and butter, double Devonshire cream, clotted cream, etc... I love using crumpets as a base for eggs Benedict. If you have an Instant Pot® you can use the yogurt setting and proof the dough much faster!

Tips:
- Use fresh buttermilk for the best flavor and texture.
- Make sure the buttermilk is at room temperature before you start cooking.
- If you don't have buttermilk, you can make your own by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup of milk and letting it sit for 5 minutes.
- Crumpets are best cooked in a crumpet ring or a skillet with a lid.
- Don't overcrowd the crumpets in the pan. Leave enough space between them so that they can cook evenly.
- Cook the crumpets over medium heat. If the heat is too high, the outsides will burn before the insides are cooked through.
- Flip the crumpets once during cooking, when the tops are covered in bubbles.
- The crumpets are done when they are golden brown and springy to the touch.
- Serve the crumpets warm with your favorite toppings, such as butter, jam, honey, or fruit.
Conclusion:
Crumpets are a delicious and versatile breakfast food that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are easy to make and can be customized with a variety of toppings. Whether you like them plain or dressed up, crumpets are a surefire way to start your day off right.
