Yield 3 cups

Number Of Ingredients 11

1/2 cup dry buttermilk baking mix
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon dried onion flakes
1 teaspoon msg (optional, I don't add it.)
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon dried parsley flakes, crushed
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 packet salad dressing mix
2 cups mayonnaise or 2 cups salad dressing
1 cup water

Steps:

  • In a small bowl or jar mix all ingredients until evenly distributed.
  • Store in a cool dry place.
  • Can be stored for up to 6 months or of course used immediately to make a wonderful salad dressing.
  • For the dressing, combine salad dressing mix, mayonnaise and water.
  • Mix well and store in refrigerator.

Tips:

  • Use fresh buttermilk: Fresh buttermilk will give your dressing the best flavor. If you don't have buttermilk on hand, you can make your own by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup of regular milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes before using.
  • Choose the right herbs: The herbs you use in your dressing will make a big difference in the flavor. For a classic buttermilk dressing, use dill, chives, and parsley. You can also add other herbs like basil, oregano, or thyme.
  • Use good quality olive oil: The olive oil you use in your dressing will also affect the flavor. Use a good quality extra virgin olive oil for the best results.
  • Season to taste: Be sure to season your dressing to taste with salt and pepper. You can also add other seasonings like garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika.
  • Let the dressing chill: After you've made your dressing, let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld together.

Conclusion:

Buttermilk salad dressing is a versatile dressing that can be used on a variety of salads. It's also a great marinade for chicken, fish, and vegetables. With its creamy texture and tangy flavor, buttermilk dressing is a surefire crowd-pleaser. So next time you're looking for a delicious and easy-to-make salad dressing, give buttermilk dressing a try.
