¼ cup black beans, rinsed and drained
¼ cup diced red onion
2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
1 tablespoon minced jalapeno pepper
2 wedges lime, divided, or more to taste
salt and ground black pepper to taste
2 tilapia fillets
1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
1 tablespoon salted butter
1 teaspoon chicken broth, or as needed
¼ cup heavy cream

  • Pour chicken broth into the pan and scrape the browned bits of food off the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon. Whisk in cream. Squeeze in another lime wedge, then taste and adjust for your desired level of tanginess. Bring to a simmer, then remove from the heat.
  • Serve fish with cold salsa, adding cream sauce to both, if desired.

Tips:

  • Choose the right tilapia fillets. Look for fillets that are firm and have a mild, slightly sweet flavor. Avoid fillets that are thin or have a strong fishy smell.
  • Use a flavorful marinade. The marinade will help to infuse the tilapia with flavor and keep it moist during cooking. Be sure to use a marinade that contains acidic ingredients, such as lemon juice or vinegar, to help break down the fish's proteins.
  • Cook the tilapia over medium heat. Overcooking will make the fish dry and tough. Cook the tilapia until it is just cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  • Serve the tilapia with a flavorful salsa. The salsa will add a pop of flavor and freshness to the dish. Choose a salsa that you enjoy, such as a mango salsa, a tomato salsa, or a salsa verde.

Conclusion:

Cajun tilapia with southwestern salsa is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. The tilapia is marinated in a flavorful blend of Cajun spices and then cooked until it is tender and flaky. The southwestern salsa adds a pop of flavor and freshness to the dish. This dish is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
