½ cup white sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup milk
1 egg, beaten
¼ cup butter, melted and cooled
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 quarts oil for deep frying
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ cup white sugar

  • Choose flowers with a delicate flavor, such as roses, lavender, violets, or pansies. Avoid flowers with a strong flavor, such as marigolds or daffodils.
  • Pick the flowers just before using them. Rinse them gently in cold water and pat them dry.
  • To candy the flowers, simply dip them in egg white and then sprinkle them with sugar. You can also add a little bit of food coloring to the egg white for a more vibrant color.
