Paloodeh Talebi - Cantaloupe Cooler(Persia) image

A delightful drink, perfect for hot days. A traditional Persian drink tweaked to make it easier. The lemon juice is not traditional, but is very good. Adapted from Fig and Quince, Modern Persian Cooking.

Time 5m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 -3 chilled cantaloupe, wedges
ice cube
1 dash rose water
1 -2 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, to taste
honey or sugar
1 thinly sliced lemon wedge
1 sprig mint

Steps:

  • Blend cantaloupe with several cubes of ice in a blender.
  • Add a dash of rosewater. Rosewater is a delightful ingredient true to its name but it is also a dominating one so use sparingly. Jazz up the flavor by adding 1 tablespoon or more of fresh lemon juice. Mix with a wooden spoon. Sweeten to taste with honey or lemon, sparingly, so as to allow the natural flavor of the cantaloupe to shine through.
  • Pour into a glass and garnish with fresh mint or very thinly sliced wedge of lemon. Drink up!
  • Drink it quickly before the ice melts and dilutes the drink.

FRESH MINT CANTALOUPE COOLER

Fresh Mint Cantaloupe Cooler image

This is my favorite new way to enjoy summer cantaloupe. And it's a great way to cool off in summer! Growing mint is rather easy too. We have some in a large pot, and it comes back each year in full force with almost no effort on our part.

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 4

1/2 c hot water
4 Tbsp light agave nectar
4 c peeled, seeded, and diced cantaloupe
3 tsp freshly squeezed lime juice

Steps:

  • 1. In a small bowl, combine hot water with agave nectar. Stir until agave nectar is dissolved in the water. Cool the mixture.
  • 2. In a blender, place cantaloupe, lime juice, and the water and agave nectar mixture. Liquify.
  • 3. Pour cantaloupe puree through a fine sieve into a large bowl. Reserve liquid; discard solids. Cool.
  • 4. Garnish the drink with fresh cantaloupe, if desired, and serve.
  • 5. Note: Be sure to taste the cantaloupe first. If it's very sweet, reduce the amount of water and agave nectar mixture. Add water to a drink, if desired.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe cantaloupe: Look for cantaloupe with a deep orange color, a slight give when pressed, and a sweet aroma. Avoid cantaloupe that is bruised or has green spots.
  • Chill the cantaloupe: Before making the cooler, chill the cantaloupe in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This will help to make the cooler extra refreshing.
  • Use fresh lime juice: Fresh lime juice adds a bright, citrusy flavor to the cooler. Avoid using bottled lime juice, as it can have a bitter taste.
  • Adjust the sweetness: The amount of sugar in the cooler can be adjusted to taste. If you like a sweeter cooler, add more sugar. If you prefer a less sweet cooler, reduce the amount of sugar.
  • Garnish with mint: Mint is a classic garnish for cantaloupe cooler. It adds a refreshing flavor and aroma to the drink.

Conclusion:

Cantaloupe cooler is a delicious and refreshing drink that is perfect for summer gatherings. It is easy to make and can be customized to taste. With its sweet and tangy flavor, cantaloupe cooler is sure to be a hit at your next party or barbecue.
