CARAMELIZED ONION - BBQ
Great onions that go with anything that is grilled on the BBQ. A TV chef did this once and it has been a family faviorite since. Only problem is I have never measured ingredients - so adjust to suit your own taste! Also great on a sausage sandwich.

CARAMELIZED ONIONS ON THE GRILL
These are absolutely melt in your mouth delicious! You can make them on the grill or in the oven. Even friends of ours that don't care for onions loved these! I would recommend that you use 1 large onion for every 2 people. Some people want one whole onion to themselves so you might want to make some extra! They are also good heated up the next day but we rarely have any extra!

Tips:
- Choose the right onions: Yellow onions are the most common type used for caramelized onions, but you can also use white or red onions. Avoid using sweet onions, as they tend to release too much liquid and can become mushy.
- Slice the onions thinly: The thinner you slice the onions, the quicker they will caramelize. Use a sharp knife and make sure the slices are uniform in thickness.
- Use a heavy-bottomed pan: A heavy-bottomed pan will help to evenly distribute the heat and prevent the onions from burning.
- Cook the onions slowly and patiently: Caramelizing onions takes time. Cook them over low heat for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Don't rush the process, or the onions will not develop their full flavor.
- Add a little bit of sugar or balsamic vinegar: This will help to speed up the caramelization process and give the onions a richer flavor.
- Don't overcrowd the pan: If you overcrowd the pan, the onions will not cook evenly. Cook the onions in batches if necessary.
- Season the onions to taste: Once the onions are caramelized, season them with salt, pepper, and any other desired spices. You can also add a splash of Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce for extra flavor.
Conclusion:
Caramelized onions are a versatile ingredient that can be used in a variety of dishes, from burgers and sandwiches to pizzas and salads. They add a sweet, savory, and slightly smoky flavor to any dish. With a little patience, you can easily make caramelized onions at home. Just follow the tips above and you'll be rewarded with delicious, flavorful onions that will elevate any dish.
