CARDAMOM SPRITZ

Cardamom Spritz image

As far back as I remember, I have loved cardamom. My grandmother often added the spice to her baked goods. I usually make these cookies with a spritz press—and camel disk—that I found at a thrift shop. It reminds me of a time when I rode a camel in the desert while deployed with the Navy. Of course, any design will do! —Crystal Schlueter, Northglenn, Colorado

Number Of Ingredients 10

For the cardamom simple syrup:
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup water
2 teaspoons lightly crushed whole cardamom pods
2-inch strip orange zest, removed with a vegetable peeler
For the cocktail:
1 750-ml bottle prosecco, chilled
Cardamom syrup (recipe follows)
Angostura bitters
Orange twists, for serving

Steps:

  • For the cardamom simple syrup:
  • In a small saucepan, combine all the ingredients and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved, then remove from heat. Let syrup cool to room temperature, then strain.
  • For the cocktail:
  • Fill each glass with 1 teaspoon cardamom syrup, and add a dash of bitters. Top up with prosecco and serve garnished with an orange twist.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality cardamom for the best flavor. Freshly ground cardamom is ideal, but pre-ground cardamom will also work.
  • Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking. This will help the cookies hold their shape and prevent them from spreading too much.
  • Bake the cookies until they are just set. Overbaking will make them dry and crumbly.
  • Let the cookies cool completely before storing them. This will help them keep their shape and prevent them from sticking together.

Conclusion:

Cardamom spritz cookies are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that is perfect for any occasion. With their unique flavor and festive appearance, these cookies are sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them.
