VIETNAMESE/CHINESE PORK CHOPS

Vietnamese/Chinese Pork Chops image

My mom and I developed this recipe together. We call it Vietnamese/Chinese because the fish sauce is from Vietnamese cuisine and 5 spice powder from Chinese cuisine. It is our favorite marinade for pork chops. If you buy your pork chops from an Asian market, let them know what you're cooking. Generally, the thinner the chop, the better.

CHINESE FIVE-SPICE-AND-MAPLE-GLAZED PORK CHOPS

Chinese Five-Spice-And-Maple-Glazed Pork Chops image

For this dish I marinate lean and versatile boneless top loin pork chops (also known as "America's Cut") in five-spice and finish it in a tangy and smooth maple glaze. This dish pairs well with my Asian Pear and Cucumber Slaw. The Asian pear, native to China, Japan and Korea, has a sweet flavor with a crisp texture, marries well with a variety of flavors and is a quick no-cook side dish option. A plastic V-slicer or mandoline will make quick work of cutting the Asian pears and cucumber into matchsticks. Categories     Pork

Time 25m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

6 boneless pork loin steaks, 1 1/4 inch-thick (America's Cut)
4 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 cup Chinese five spice powder
2 tablespoons sea salt
1 tablespoon black pepper, freshly ground
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1 cup maple syrup, preferably Grade B
2 tablespoons cider vinegar

Steps:

  • Marinating Time: 8 hours, 20 minutes.
  • To prepare the pork chops: Brush pork chops with the oil and season with salt and pepper. Sprinkle the five-spice powder evenly over pork chops. Place on a plate and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight. Let stand at room temperature for 20 minutes before searing.
  • To prepare the glaze: Melt butter in medium saucepan over medium heat. Add maple syrup and vinegar and bring to a boil. Cook, stirring often, until slightly reduced, about 2 minutes. Set aside.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F Add a little cooking oil to pan and heat over medium-high heat. When the oil begins to shimmer, sear the pork chops until brown, about 3 to 5 minutes each side. Place the pan in the oven and cook until an instant-read thermometer inserted horizontally into the center of a chop reads 145ºF, about 10 to 12 minutes. During the last 3 minutes, reheat the maple sauce and brush both sides of the chops until well glazed. Remove from pan from the oven and let stand for 3 minutes.

MOUTHWATERING CHINESE PORK CHOPS

Mouthwatering Chinese Pork Chops image

My mother is Chinese, and always made pork chops in this sauce. Very yummy! The sauce is savory, and hard to resist! During the summer, I make these on the grill instead of in the oven, and they turn out even better!

Provided by lindarusiecki

Categories     Pork

Time 1h10m

Yield 4-6 pork chops, 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

6 tablespoons dark soy sauce
6 tablespoons oyster sauce (Lee Kum Chee is the best brand. I buy mine in bulk at an oriental market)
2 tablespoons sesame oil
2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
3 tablespoons brown sugar
3 tablespoons pancake syrup
3 tablespoons applesauce or 3 tablespoons apple juice concentrate
1 tablespoon of minced garlic
4 large pork chops or 6 small pork chops

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in gallon sized zip-lock bag. Add meat. Marinate overnight.
  • Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Place pork chops in foil-lined baking pan and pour sauce from the bag over them.
  • Cover and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Remove foil from pan. Turn chops and bake for an additional fifteen minutes to brown.
  • Serve over white rice. I save the drippings and pour them over the rice.

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality pork chops: Look for pork chops that are thick and evenly cut, with a good amount of marbling. This will ensure that your chops stay juicy and flavorful during cooking.
  • Tenderize the pork chops: To make your pork chops extra tender, you can use a meat mallet to pound them until they are about 1/4 inch thick. This will help to break down the muscle fibers and make the chops more tender.
  • Marinate the pork chops: Marinating the pork chops in a flavorful marinade will help to add flavor and moisture to the meat. You can use a variety of marinades, such as a simple mixture of olive oil, garlic, and herbs, or a more complex marinade with ingredients like soy sauce, honey, and ginger.
  • Cook the pork chops over medium heat: Cooking the pork chops over medium heat will help to prevent them from drying out. Use a meat thermometer to ensure that the pork chops are cooked to an internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit for medium-rare, 155 degrees Fahrenheit for medium, or 165 degrees Fahrenheit for well-done.
  • Let the pork chops rest before serving: After cooking the pork chops, let them rest for a few minutes before serving. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, resulting in more tender and flavorful pork chops.

Conclusion:

Chinese pork chops are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With a variety of recipes to choose from, there is sure to be a Chinese pork chop recipe that everyone will love. Whether you are looking for a quick and easy weeknight meal or a special dish for a dinner party, Chinese pork chops are a great option.
