Categories     Desserts     Candy Recipes     Toffee Recipes

Time 1h25m

Yield 30

Number Of Ingredients 5

6 whole matzos
1 cup salted butter
1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
20 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
½ cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Line baking sheets with foil and pinch the edges into a lip to contain drips. Grease the foil well with butter. Place the matzos onto the baking sheets, breaking them in half if needed.
  • Melt the butter in a saucepan with the brown sugar over medium heat; bring to a boil and reduce heat. Simmer the mixture until thickened, about 5 minutes. Ladle the hot sugar mixture over the matzos, spreading the mixture over the matzos with a rubber spatula.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until the sugar mixture is bubbling and thick, about 20 minutes. Set aside to cool until the toffee coating is firm, about 15 minutes.
  • Place the semisweet chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on Low until the chips are just melted (do not let the chocolate overheat or scorch). Spread the melted chocolate over the toffee-coated matzos; sprinkle chopped pecans on top. Place the baking sheets into the refrigerator until the treats are cold, about 30 minutes. Remove the matzos from the foil, break up into pieces, and store in an airtight container or plastic bags in refrigerator or freezer.

big hit at my sisters this holiday, we made it at home the next day using other chips, and all were delicious

Provided by chia2160

Categories     Candy

Time 15m

Yield 30 pieces

Number Of Ingredients 5

4 cups matzo farfel or 4 cups matzohs, crumbled
3 cups chocolate chips, melted (we used white chocolate, butterscotch, and semi sweet chips and made 3 batches out of this recipe)
2 cups almonds or 2 cups mixed nuts
dried mixed fruit, diced (optional)
coconut (optional)

Steps:

  • melt chocolate chips in the microwave for 1 minute, stir.
  • in greased mixing bowl add nuts, matzoh and chocolate, stir to mix well (if you want to add dried fruit and coconut do it now).
  • place wax paper onto baking sheets.
  • drop by spoonfuls, refrigerate several hours.

Tips:

  • Use fresh matzo farfel: This will ensure that your haystacks are crispy and flavorful.
  • Toast the matzo farfel: > Toasting the matzo farfel in the oven before adding it to the recipe will give it a richer flavor and a crunchier texture.
  • Use high-quality chocolate: >The chocolate is the star of this recipe, so be sure to use a chocolate that you enjoy the taste of.
  • Melt the chocolate slowly and evenly: >This will help to prevent it from scorching and seizing.
  • Don't overmix the batter: > Overmixing the batter will make the haystacks tough.
  • Chill the haystacks before serving: >This will help them to set and hold their shape.
  • Store the haystacks in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

Conclusion:

Chocolate matzo farfel haystacks are a delicious, easy-to-make treat that is perfect for any occasion.
