CHOCOLATE-PEPPERMINT POPCORN

Time 1h15m

Yield 4 cups of popcorn

Number Of Ingredients 0

Steps:

  • Microwave 1 cup white chocolate chips with 1 tablespoon shortening in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring every 30 seconds, until melted, 2 to 3 minutes. Repeat in a separate bowl with 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips and 1 tablespoon shortening. Spread 6 cups popcorn on a baking sheet and drizzle with both chocolate mixtures. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup roughly chopped peppermint candies and a pinch of kosher salt. Let harden, about 1 hour, then break into pieces.

Tips:

  • Choose the right popcorn kernels. For the best results, use non-GMO popcorn kernels that are fresh and have a high popping rate. Avoid using old or stale kernels, as they will not pop as well.
  • Use a large pot or Dutch oven. This will give the popcorn kernels plenty of room to pop and prevent them from overcrowding. A large pot or Dutch oven will also help to ensure that the popcorn is evenly cooked.
  • Heat the oil over medium-high heat. This will help to prevent the popcorn from burning. Be careful not to overheat the oil, as this can also cause the popcorn to burn.
  • Add the popcorn kernels to the pot or Dutch oven. Once the oil is hot, add the popcorn kernels in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the pot or Dutch oven, or the popcorn will not pop properly.
  • Cover the pot or Dutch oven and shake it occasionally. This will help to distribute the heat evenly and prevent the popcorn from burning. Shake the pot or Dutch oven every few seconds until the popping slows down.
  • Remove the pot or Dutch oven from the heat and pour the popcorn into a large bowl. Once the popping slows down, remove the pot or Dutch oven from the heat and pour the popcorn into a large bowl. Be careful not to spill the hot oil.
  • Season the popcorn to taste. You can season the popcorn with a variety of different ingredients, such as salt, butter, melted chocolate, and peppermint extract. Get creative and experiment with different flavor combinations to find your favorite.

Conclusion:

Chocolate peppermint popcorn is a delicious and festive treat that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be customized to your own taste. With a few simple ingredients, you can create a sweet and savory snack that will satisfy your cravings. So next time you are looking for a fun and easy snack, give chocolate peppermint popcorn a try.
