Posting this for Greek region of ZWT 6. Found it online at FoodTV site from Giada De Laurentiis, while searching it for Greek recipes. Sounds delicious!! Time doesn't include time for sugar/water cooling.

Categories     Smoothies

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 8

1/2 c water
1/2 c sugar
3 c plain greek yogurt
1 1/4 c orange juice
2 medium bananas, cut into 1-inch pieces
2 Tbsp grated orange zest (from 1 large orange)
2 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 c ice

Steps:

  • 1. In a small saucepan, bring the sugar and water to a boil over medium-high heat. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved, about 5 minutes. Cool for 20 minutes.
  • 2. Pour the cooled syrup into a blender. Add the yogurt, orange juice, bananas, orange zest, vanilla extract, and ice. Blend until the mixture is smooth. Pour into glasses and serve.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe citrus fruits: The riper the citrus fruits, the sweeter and more flavorful your smoothie will be.
  • Use a variety of citrus fruits: Don't be afraid to mix and match different types of citrus fruits to create a unique flavor profile. Some popular combinations include orange and grapefruit, lemon and lime, and tangerine and clementine.
  • Add other fruits and vegetables: To boost the nutritional value of your smoothie, add other fruits and vegetables like bananas, berries, spinach, and kale.
  • Use fresh or frozen fruit: Both fresh and frozen fruit can be used to make citrus smoothies. If you're using frozen fruit, be sure to thaw it slightly before blending.
  • Adjust the sweetness: The amount of sweetener you add to your smoothie is a personal preference. If you're using ripe citrus fruits, you may not need to add any sweetener at all.
  • Add some spice: For a unique twist, try adding a pinch of spice to your citrus smoothie. Some popular options include ginger, cinnamon, and turmeric.

Citrus smoothies are a delicious and refreshing way to start your day or refuel after a workout. They're packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, making them a healthy and nutritious choice.
