2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
2 T. butter
4 green onions, thinly sliced
3 T. minced fresh Italian parsley
1 1/2 tsp. minced fresh thyme
1/4 whipping cream
3/4 C. grated dry Jack cheese or freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1 tsp. grated lemon peel

Stir green onion mixture, cheese and lemon peel into polenta. Continue to bake uncovered until polenta is creamy and liquid is completely absorbed, about 10 min longer. Let stand 5 min.; serve.

Tips:

  • Choose the right onions: Yellow or white onions are best for this recipe, as they have a mild flavor that will not overpower the other ingredients.
  • Slice the onions thinly: This will help them to cook evenly and will also make them more tender.
  • Use a good quality Gruyère cheese: This cheese has a nutty, slightly sweet flavor that pairs well with the onions.
  • Don't overcook the onions: They should be tender but still have a slight bite to them.
  • Serve the onions immediately: They are best enjoyed hot out of the oven.

Conclusion:

Creamy baked onions are a delicious and easy side dish that can be served with a variety of main courses. They are perfect for a weeknight meal or a special occasion. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a dish that is sure to impress your guests.
