Steps:
- Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook the penne pasta to just before al dente (1 minute less than package instructions). Reserve ¼ cup of pasta water, drain and set aside.
- Meanwhile, heat 2 tablespoons of butter and 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the onion and cook until translucent; 1-2 minutes. Stir in vegetables in the following order, cooking and stirring for 1-2 minutes after each addition: Carrots, broccoli, red bell pepper, asparagus or zucchini, minced garlic. Add another tablespoon of butter to the skillet if it starts looking a little dry, usually just before the asparagus. Season vegetables with a pinch of salt and pepper, then transfer to a plate and set aside.
- To the skillet, add a tablespoon of butter, 3/4 cup chicken broth, ¼ cup lemon juice and ¼ of cup pasta water. Bring to a boil and simmer until slightly reduced; 2-3 minutes. Stir in the pasta and continue to simmer until sauce is reduced by half; 3-4 minutes. Stir in vegetables and season with salt and pepper as desired.
- Top with fresh grated Parmesan cheese and serve immediately. Garnish with fresh minced parsley and serve with lemon wedges if desired.

- Add the cooked vegetables to the sauce, along with the peas and basil; stir to combine. If the sauce needs a little more liquid, splash in a small amount of broth. Place the cooked pasta in a large serving bowl and pour all the contents of the skillet over the pasta; toss to combine. Sprinkle with extra basil, and serve with extra Parmesan.

CREAMY PARMESAN PRIMAVERA
From the book "Pasta Presto." You can use spaghetti, linguni, penne, rotini...really any pasta you like. You can also use any veggies you like. I tend not to use mushrooms as one of my kids don't like them and I always like adding a leafy green like spinach, kale, swiss chard, arugula or escarole. Whatever is available in your garden or at the farmer's market will probably work great.

CREAMLESS PENNE PASTA PRIMAVERA WITH OLIVE OIL AND GARLIC
Entered for safe-keeping. I am searching for a recipe closest to the creamless pasta primavera that used to lure me to a local restaurant (until the chef left). This version by Chef George Krumov seems very close. For non-vegetarians, make this a complete meal by adding (per person) 1 grilled chicken breast cut into 1-1/2-inch long strips or 1/4 pound cooked shelled shrimp (31-40 count/pound).

Steps:
- Bring 4 quarts of water with 2 tablespoons salt to a boil in a large pot and cook dry penne pasta to desired doneness per package directions. (Only 2.8 quarts -- 2.5 liters -- of water are required, but with the smaller amount of water, it would take longer for the water to return to a boil once the pasta is added.).
- Meanwhile, precook broccoli florets and carrots. If boiling in water, boil for 3-5 minutes and check for doneness with fork. Otherwise, vegetables can be steamed. Once cooked, transfer vegetables to ice water to halt cooking and preserve bright color, then drain. Set aside until step 4.
- In a large heavy skillet, heat the olive oil 1 minute or until hot and saute the onion and garlic until lightly golden, about 3 minutes.
- Add the vegetables and saute until the peppers are soft, about 2 minutes.
- Deglaze with the beef broth, if using, or just a splash (1 fluid ounce) of dry white wine.
- Add the drained penne noodles and basil and season to taste.
- Toss well and serve immediately with some freshly grated Parmesan or Grana di Padano cheese on the side.

Tips:
- Use fresh vegetables for the best flavor and texture.

- Use a good quality olive oil to add flavor to the dish.
- Season the dish to taste with salt, pepper, and other herbs and spices.
- Serve the pasta primavera immediately, garnished with fresh herbs or grated Parmesan cheese.
