A friend of mine (Johnny O) gave me his recipe for this mustard glaze. He always makes the ham for a senior citizen Christmas "Feed" that we do every year at Christmas. There is never any ham left and everyone raves about this mustard glaze on the ham.

Categories     Pork

Time 8h5m

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 8 - 10 lb fully cooked spiral cut ham
1/2 c water
GLAZE:
2 c brown sugar, packed
1 c plain yellow mustard
1 small can crushed pineapple, undrained

Steps:

  • 1. Pour water in Crock-Pot.
  • 2. Place the ham, flat side down, onto enough foil to completely wrap it.
  • 3. Spread the glaze over the ham. Separate the slices a little so the glaze can seep down between them. This should be a rather thick glaze so it will stay on the ham fairly well.
  • 4. Wrap the foil around the ham and place it in the Crock-Pot.
  • 5. Cover and cook on High 1 hour, then Low 6 to 8 hours or until the ham is hot.

Tips:

  • Choosing the right ham: Select a fully cooked ham for easy preparation in the crock pot. Bone-in hams add flavor but require longer cooking time. Opt for a spiral-cut ham for even cooking and easy slicing.
  • Prepping the ham: Remove the packaging and rinse the ham thoroughly under cold water. Pat dry with paper towels to ensure even browning.
  • Adding flavor: Enhance the ham's flavor by scoring the surface and studding it with cloves, garlic, or pineapple slices. Baste the ham with glaze or sauce throughout the cooking process for a moist and flavorful result.
  • Cooking time: Set the crock pot to low and cook the ham for the recommended time per pound. Avoid lifting the lid during cooking to prevent heat loss and ensure proper cooking.
  • Garnishing and serving: Before serving, remove the ham from the crock pot and let it rest for 15-20 minutes. Garnish with fresh herbs, orange slices, or cherries for a festive touch. Serve the ham with your favorite sides and enjoy!

Conclusion:

With minimal effort and maximum flavor, crock pot baked ham is a versatile dish perfect for any occasion. By following these simple tips and choosing the right recipe, you can create a tender, juicy, and mouthwatering ham that will impress your friends and family. Experiment with different glazes and sides to find your perfect combination. So, the next time you're looking for an easy and delicious meal, consider giving crock pot baked ham a try — you won't be disappointed!
