Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef:Chuck roast or brisket are great options for this recipe, as they are both tough cuts of meat that will become tender and flavorful when cooked slowly in the crock pot.
  • Sear the beef before cooking:Searing the beef will help to brown it and develop its flavor. You can do this in a skillet over medium-high heat, or in the crock pot itself on the sauté setting.
  • Use a good quality beef broth:The beef broth is an important part of the flavor of this dish, so use a good quality broth that is low in sodium.
  • Add plenty of vegetables:Vegetables add flavor and nutrition to this dish. You can use any vegetables that you like, such as carrots, celery, onions, potatoes, or green beans.
  • Simmer until the beef is tender:The beef should be cooked until it is fall-apart tender. This will usually take 8-10 hours on low or 4-6 hours on high.
  • Serve on a toasted bun:The best way to serve this beef is on a toasted bun with your favorite toppings, such as cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion.
