CROCK POT GARLIC MASHED POTATOES

An easy way to make garlic mashed potatoes. I like to leave the skins on. I've found that a pastry blender works great for mashing potatoes; it seems even better than a masher.

Categories     Potatoes

Time 1h20m

Number Of Ingredients 6

12 medium sized red potatoes
6 to 8 clove fresh garlic minced
8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
1 c sour cream
6 Tbsp salted butter
salt to taste

Steps:

  • 1. wash and quarter potatoes with shin on. Cover with water and cook on stove top till fork tender.
  • 2. With hand masher, mash potatoes, you want some lumps.
  • 3. Add minced garlic, cream cheese, sour cream and butter. If you want them to be thinner you can add more sour cream or a little half and half. Salt to taste.
  • 4. Put potatoes in crock pot and turn on low to keep warm till served.

Tips:

  • For the creamiest mashed potatoes, use Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes. Avoid waxy potatoes like red potatoes or new potatoes, as they won't mash as smoothly.
  • Peel and cut the potatoes into evenly sized pieces so that they cook evenly. If the pieces are too large, they may not cook through in the crock pot.
  • Don't overcook the potatoes. They should be tender but still hold their shape. If you overcook them, they will become gluey and lose their flavor.
  • Use chicken broth or vegetable broth instead of water for a more flavorful mashed potato dish. You can also add milk, cream, or butter for a richer flavor.
  • Season the mashed potatoes to taste with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and other desired seasonings. You can also add fresh herbs, such as chives, parsley, or thyme, for an extra burst of flavor.
  • Serve the mashed potatoes immediately, or keep them warm in the crock pot on the "warm" setting until you're ready to serve. You can also make the mashed potatoes ahead of time and reheat them in the crock pot on the "warm" setting.

Conclusion:

Crock pot garlic mashed potatoes are a delicious and easy side dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are perfect for busy weeknights or for special occasions. The slow cooker does all the work, so you can relax and enjoy your time with family and friends. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can have a creamy, flavorful mashed potato dish that everyone will love.
