- Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).
- In a small bowl, mix butter, garlic salt, rosemary, basil, thyme, garlic powder and Parmesan cheese.
- Spread each half of the French bread with equal portions of the butter mixture. Sprinkle with additional Parmesan cheese, if desired.
- Place bread halves, crusts down, on a medium baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are very lightly browned.

- In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add 2 cups flour, 1/4 cup butter, egg, sugar, salt and seasonings. Beat at low speed until mixed, about 30 seconds; increase speed to medium and continue beating for 2 minutes. Stir in remaining flour and 1/3 cup cheese; beat until smooth. , Cover bowl and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour. Stir batter 25 strokes. Spread batter into a greased 1-1/2-qt. casserole; brush with melted butter and sprinkle with the remaining cheese. CRISP ROSEMARY-PARMESAN GARLIC BREAD
Steps:
- Blend butter and rosemary in processor. Gradually add oil and process until incorporated. Mix in Parmesan cheese. (Can be made 1 day ahead. Cover and refrigerate. Bring to room temperature before continuing.) Mix in garlic.Prepare barbecue (medium-high heat) or preheat oven to 400°F. Spread cheese mixture over cut sides of bread.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- In a small bowl, combine the garlic and oil, mix well.
- In another bowl, combine parsley, thyme, marjoram and paprika.
- Add Parmesan; mix well.
- Cut each loaf crosswise into diagonal slices, without cutting all the way through.
- Brush cut sides of slices with garlic oil.
- Sprinkle herb mixture between slices.
- Wrap each loaf in foil, place on a baking sheet. Bake until heated through, about 10 to 15 minutes.
- Unwrap the loaves and place them on a breadboard or in a basket. Serve immediately.
- FREEZER Follow the recipe through step 2, but wrap each loaf in plastic wrap and then in foil.
- Freeze up to 1 month.
- To heat, preheat oven to 350°F.
- Remove foil and plastic wrap from loaves; rewrap in foil.
- Place on a baking sheet and bake until heated through, about 25 to 30 minutes.

- In a large bowl, combine 3 cups flour, yeast, sugar and salt. In a small saucepan, heat the water and 1/4 cup butter to 120°-130°. Add to dry ingredients; beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough. , Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top.
