Time 13m

Yield 2 quarts popped corn

Number Of Ingredients 6

1/2 cup popcorn
1/4 cup vegetable oil (I like olive oil or corn oil)
2 tablespoons hot melted butter
2 teaspoons ground turmeric
1 tablespoon mild curry powder (or if you prefer, use hot curry powder)
1 -2 teaspoon salt, to taste

Steps:

  • Combine the popcorn and the oil in a large kettle or pot with a tight fitting lid and place over medium high heat.
  • When the corn begins to pop, shake the pot constantly. When the popping slows, remove the pot from the heat and pour the butter over the top. Combine the spices and toss with the popped corn. Enjoy!

Tips:

  • Choose the right popcorn kernels. Smaller, hulless popcorn kernels are best for curried popcorn because they pop up smaller and have a more tender texture.
  • Use a large pot or Dutch oven. This will give the popcorn plenty of room to pop and prevent it from burning.
  • Heat the oil over medium heat. If the oil is too hot, the popcorn will burn. If it's not hot enough, the popcorn won't pop.
  • Add the popcorn kernels and curry powder to the pot. Stir to coat the kernels with the curry powder.
  • Cover the pot and shake it back and forth over the heat. This will help the popcorn pop evenly.
  • Once the popcorn starts popping, remove the pot from the heat and shake it vigorously. This will help to keep the popcorn from burning.
  • When the popping sound slows down, return the pot to the heat and shake it for a few more seconds. This will help to pop any remaining kernels.
  • Remove the pot from the heat and pour the popcorn into a large bowl.
  • Add any desired toppings, such as melted butter, salt, or grated Parmesan cheese.

Conclusion:

Curried popcorn is a delicious and easy-to-make snack that is perfect for parties, movie nights, or anytime you're in the mood for something savory and crunchy. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a batch of curried popcorn that is sure to please everyone. So next time you're looking for a new snack to try, give curried popcorn a try. You won't be disappointed!
