Time 45m

Yield 40

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 tablespoon canola oil
1 cup minced onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 beef bouillon cubes
½ cup hot water
3 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
1 cup granular sucrolose sweetener (such as Splenda®)
¾ cup Worcestershire sauce
¾ cup Dijon mustard
3 tablespoons hickory-flavored liquid smoke
1 teaspoon salt
½ cup cider vinegar
1 tablespoon hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco®), or to taste

Steps:

  • Heat the oil in a large saucepan over medium heat, and cook and stir until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes. Mix the beef bouillon cubes and water in a cup until the cubes are softened and beginning to dissolve, and pour the water and bouillon cubes into the saucepan. Bring to a simmer, stirring to dissolve the cubes. Mix in the tomato paste, sucralose sweetener, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, liquid smoke flavoring, salt, cider vinegar, and hot pepper sauce. Stir until the sweetener has dissolved.

SWEET AND SMOKY BARBEQUE SAUCE

Sweet and Smoky Barbeque Sauce image

Use this toward the end of cooking as you would for any BBQ meat such as pork, ribs, or chicken. I have even used it on beef and hamburgers, sausages, hot dogs, or anything you want, for the most part. I use it on everything from ribs to roasts to hamburgers to hot dogs. Even goes good with a good old classic grilled cheese sandwich. This is a great all-round BBQ sauce. Use right away or cool to room temperature, transfer to jars or containers, and refrigerate. The sauce will keep for several months in the fridge.

3 cups onion, finely chopped
4 cloves garlic, chopped
1 ½ cups apple cider vinegar
½ cup bourbon
2 cups dark brown sugar, packed

1 tablespoon mustard powder
2 tablespoons smoked paprika
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 teaspoons chili flakes,
2 tablespoons salt

Steps:

  • Combine tomatoes, onion, and garlic in a large stock pot and bring to a boil; lower heat and simmer 30 minutes or until vegetables are very soft. Working in batches, puree vegetables until smooth with Harvest Pro food mill or in the bowl of a food processor.

  • Start with a good base: The key to a great sugar-free BBQ sauce is a good base. Use quality ingredients like tomato puree, apple cider vinegar, mustard, and spices.
  • Use natural sweeteners: Instead of refined sugar, use natural sweeteners like stevia, monk fruit, or erythritol. These sweeteners have a low glycemic index and won't spike your blood sugar levels.
  • Experiment with different flavors: There are endless possibilities when it comes to flavoring your sugar-free BBQ sauce. Try adding spices like chili powder, cumin, or garlic powder. You can also add herbs like basil, oregano, or cilantro. And don't forget the salt and pepper!
